TNN Jan 4, 2012, 03.03AM IST AHMEDABAD:
Wildlife experts and enthusiasts from around the world
will congregate in the air-conditioned environs of
Mahatma Mandir in Gandhinagar as part of the Global Bird
Watcher's Conference on January 19. But it would make more
sense if they meet in the marshlands of Kutch and surrounding
areas, which have become a graveyard of some of the most
endangered winged species in the country - flamingos.

10. In addition to the above all the
creeks and rivers are silting.
The satellite images of saline
wetlands of India for the years 1991
and 2011 should be analyzed. That
would confirm how much wetlands
have diminished naturally, officially
and/or through encroachments.
11. In view of above this work shop should recommend
to the Govt. of India the following proposals :-
All Wetlands should be reserved for the
development of mangrove forests and
shelters for migratory birds.
All wetlands should be under an
authority at national level with the
respective state units.
All state governments should be
advised to estimate how much of wetlands
have been encroached against C R Z norms.
