3. 3BUSINESS SWEDEN | KOREAN–SWEDISH EXECUTIVE MEETING ON HEALTHCARE OF THE FUTURE |
DEAR
FRIENDS,
Sweden and Korea have a long history of excellent relations
and cooperation in many different areas, including life sci-
ence. In 2013 Korea and Sweden signed a Memorandum of
Understanding to increase bilateral cooperation in the area of
health and welfare.
As the Swedish Ambassador to Korea I am particularly happy
to host today’s event which has the objective to increase
intellectual and commercial exchange in the important field
of value-based care. Our two countries both rank highly in
international comparisons of health systems and we share
many challenges and opportunities. One of these challenges
is the growing demand, and cost, for health and welfare
services. We also see that the quality of care and health out-
comes can vary greatly between different care facilities and
geographical locations. A common opportunity we share is
the increasingly involved and well-informed patient ready to
be an engaged partner and co-producer in the development
of healthcare. These aspects have the potential to fundamen-
tally change the way we think about quality and efficiency in
care.
I look forward to develop and deepen the partnership
between Sweden and Korea in the field of health and wel-
fare. By working together we can both develop our national
healthcare systems and find ways to tackle global health
challenges to improve health outcomes that are important
for all people.
Yours sincerely,
H. E. Anne Höglund

INNOVATION THROUGH
COLLABORATION
Addressing global societal challenges such as an ageing
population, an increase in lifestyle-related diseases and
antibiotic resistance requires innovation. In Sweden, the life
science sector, i.e. academia, healthcare and industry, has a
long tradition of successful collaboration. Our way of foster-
ing innovation through collaboration, has led to the develop-
ment of many Swedish companies that are global leaders in
their respective clinical fields.
Today healthcare is an industry in transformation. It is time to
start to look at the patient pathway as value-chain and adopt
a person-centered approach. Just as it has already disrupted
other business sectors, digitalization is set to reshape both
the life science industry and healthcare systems.
Korea and Sweden have both made life science a strategic
priority. We want to stay at the forefront of advances, deliver-
ing innovative solutions to turn our societal challenges into
opportunities. Focus on delivering improved outcomes that
actually matter to patients along with advances in digital
technologies offer many opportunities for new diagnosis and
treatments, to improve access to care, to reduce variation in
outcomes, to increase healthcare quality and cost-efficiency.
I am delighted to moderate this executive meeting and I look
forward to an interactive discussion where we exchange
ideas, ambitions and challenges on how to deliver tomor-
row’s healthcare.
Yours sincerely,
