2. The Holodeck from Star Trek has been a dream
for many people for decades, but Microsoft’s
latest gaming technology comes very close and
could turn your living room into a virtual
environment.
Microsoft researchers have shown off their
prototype gaming system that can turn any
room into an interactive reality display.
3. RoomAlive uses projectors and 6 Microsoft
Kinect camera sensors to work out the
dimensions of a room so any surface, including
tables and walls, within it can be used as a
display to project images onto.
The ceiling-mounted cameras monitor people
moving round in the room and works out how
they interact with projected objects.
4. RoomAlive may be a more attractive reality-reality
alternative to the current headsets, like
the Oculus Rift.
It is currently only a prototype but gaming and
Star Trek fans alike will be hoping for a public
release in the near future.
