Engineers need to make sure that their engineering
projects are planned out perfectly in order to ensure that
everything is produced quickly and inexpensively. The
planning engineer determines the best possible method
and sequence of engineering a particular project, whether
it be a civil engineering project or a new type of
machinery. During the developmental part of the
engineering project, the planning engineer determines
which techniques will be appropriate; determines the
logistics of moving equipment and materials from location
to location; draws up plans or communicates with technical
illustrators to draw up plans; and estimates the price of the
project.
This engineer oversees all stages of the project and makes
recommendations when last minute changes must be
made to the project. They must also make sure that all
safety standards are followed. During the manufacturing
process, the planning engineer is responsible for
determining the most efficient and effective methods of
manufacturing the product. Planning engineers must be
able to foresee the labor, technical, equipment and
material demands that will be placed on the project.
Planning engineers can be under a great deal of stress
since there are often penalties within the contract for not
completing the project on time.
This certification program is a professional credential for
individual to be recognized as a Certified Planning
Engineer, and those seeking a rewarding career and
compensation package as a Certified Planning Engineer.

Module 1: Role of a Planning Engineer
Describe the roles and responsibilities of a Planning Engineer during the various phases of project planning and schedule
development, management and control.
Module 2: Project Management Life Cycle
Planning Engineer need to know the five phases of a project management life cycle which includes Initiation phase, Planning phase,
Execution phase, Monitoring and Control phase, and Closeout phase.
Module 3: Project Management Processes
Project management processes include the project scheduling processes, project time management, project scope management,
and project integration management. These processes will be used by the project team to deliver the work defined in the project
schedule.
Module 4: Stakeholder Management
Project Stakeholder Management is about identifying the people, groups, or organizations that could impact or be impacted by the
project. PSM includes continuous communication with stakeholders to understand their needs and expectations, addressing issues
as they occur, and managing conflicting interests.
Module 5: Initiating the Project
This module discusses the processes involved in initiating the project that include identifying the project team, definition of project
scope, schedule, quality, cost, and risk to produce the Project Charter. A planning engineer not only must understand the content
of the charter, the constraints facing the project will have direct impact during project planning and scheduling activities that will
follow after this phase.
Module 6: Planning and Scheduling
Planning is the process of identifying all activities necessary to complete the project while scheduling is the process of determining
the sequential order of executing project activities, assigning planned duration, resources and determining the start and finish dates
of each activity. You will be guided using Primavera tool to develop a project schedule based upon construction industry case study.
Module 7: Cost Accounting
The result of planning and scheduling help in identifying all costs associated with the project that will eventually determine the
project budget. There are other cost related to the procurement of materials, contractual liabilities, inflation cost, penalties, that
will be discussed in this session.
Module 8: Risk Management
Managing threats facing project team in delivering the project works. This module discuss the processes associated with risk
management that include identifying risk, developing risk action plans, risk management plan.
Module 9: Managing and Controlling Project Schedule
A planning engineer’s job also include managing and controlling the project specifically controlling changes affecting the scope and
schedule of the project, managing the acceptance of project deliverables, managing risks, issues, and managing subcontractor.
