By Probiotics Expert: Dr. Raga
 Enterococcus Faecium is a bacterial
specie which is considered as a
normal flora in the gastrointestinal
tract of animals and humans.
 They are discovered to be the ones
responsible for the colonization of
G.I. tracts of living creatures
for eons and are there to
stay. There’s no way to "make them
go away.”
 Depending on the composition of a
human diet or an animal ration, up
to 100 million (1 x 10^8 ) colony
forming units (CFU), or live
bacteria, have been isolated per
gram of fecal material.
 According to studies, Enterococcus
Faecium has been shown to
produce three types of
bacteriocins.
 These three types of bacteriocins
are enterocin A, enterocin B, and
enterocin P.
 Just like the other antibiotics
which are manufactured and
produced naturally, these
bacteriocins have the ability to kill
other bacteria.
 Two of bacteriocins are thought to
be acting together. This is what
makes them more efficient.
Therefore, they are able to kill off
more bacteria.
 One of the most common problems with
probiotic bacteria is that they tend to leave
the gut in a short period of time.
 One of the main reasons why probiotics
contained with Enterococcus Faecium are
effective is because of the fact that this
bacterial strain persists in the gut.
 This means that high levels of this probiotic
bacteria strain should be taken consistently.
1. Beneficial digestive bacteria
 Enterococcus Faecium have been found out
as a normal part of the digestive tract. It
cannot be eliminated from the digestive
environment and will always be an integral
portion of the intestinal flora.
2. Animal products with probiotics
 Probiotics containing Enterococcus Faecium
have been discovered to give a beneficial
effect to animals, such as in dogs.
3. Safe and effective probiotics
 According to studies, the carefully chosen
and researched strains of Enterococcus
Faecium are proved to be safe and effective.
 They have been recognized as safe
substances for the use of humans and in
livestock businesses.
4. Antibiotics and enterococcus faecium
 There are clinically challenging strains of
enterococcus faecium that have been
discovered. These are related to the
indiscriminate use of antibiotics in humans
and animals.
 This type of enterococcus faecium strains has
the ability to turn into an outbreak which
can spread quickly, especially when the
hospital sanitation procedures are poor or
lacking.
5. Application of enterococcus faecium probiotics to
aquatic species
 Due to the rapid growth of aquaculture particularly in
fish and shrimp farming industries, there is a
constant threat for the outbreak of infectious
diseases.
 According to studies, the species Aeromonas and
Vibrio are the most common pathogenic
microorganisms that affect these industries.
 In order to control the attack of these
microorganisms, antibiotics have been used. Though,
the use of antibiotics had led to resistance and
limitations in market production.
 In the study, it has been proved that probiotic use in
aquatic species is helpful in improving their health
and survival.
6. Use of enterococcus faecium in the cheese
production
 There have been a study which claimed the
efficiency of cheese as the form of delivery of
probiotic enterococcus faecium into the
digestive tract.
 This probiotic strain has been formerly known as
having a beneficial part in the treatment of
irritable bowel syndrome.
 Though there is an increased efficiency in the
delivery of probiotics to the digestive tract
through cheese, it has also been discovered that
it may affect the taste of the cheese product.
 Probacto is the best probiotic that I
have ever run into. They use multiple
strains and they are spore forming so
they can last while not refrigerated.
They do not use cheap bacteria, but
expensive ones such as B. Subtilis.
 Probacto also contains prebiotics to
help stimulate the growth of beneficial
bacteria in your gut.
 Probacto contains digestive enzymes to
assist in your digestion.
 Probacto is enteric coated and made to
be slow release so it will release in
your gut gradually.
 The use of probiotics have brought many issues.
These issues particularly revolve around its uses,
mechanism of action, safety, and effectiveness.
Studies proving these are still few. It is also
important to consider that the different strains
of probiotics are another concern. There may be
some probiotics which are suitable in humans
but not in animals and vice versa. Therefore,
more focus should be given in discovering further
information about these microorganisms.
Especially in the case of enterococcus faecium,
there have been studies which claim that its
interaction with bacteria may lead to resistance
and later on to outbreaks. Therefore, utmost
care and keen attention to findings and its uses
should be implemented.

Enterococcus Faecium Probiotic

  • 2.  Enterococcus Faecium is a bacterial specie which is considered as a normal flora in the gastrointestinal tract of animals and humans.  They are discovered to be the ones responsible for the colonization of G.I. tracts of living creatures for eons and are there to stay. There’s no way to "make them go away.”  Depending on the composition of a human diet or an animal ration, up to 100 million (1 x 10^8 ) colony forming units (CFU), or live bacteria, have been isolated per gram of fecal material.
  • 3.  According to studies, Enterococcus Faecium has been shown to produce three types of bacteriocins.  These three types of bacteriocins are enterocin A, enterocin B, and enterocin P.  Just like the other antibiotics which are manufactured and produced naturally, these bacteriocins have the ability to kill other bacteria.  Two of bacteriocins are thought to be acting together. This is what makes them more efficient. Therefore, they are able to kill off more bacteria.
  • 4.  One of the most common problems with probiotic bacteria is that they tend to leave the gut in a short period of time.  One of the main reasons why probiotics contained with Enterococcus Faecium are effective is because of the fact that this bacterial strain persists in the gut.  This means that high levels of this probiotic bacteria strain should be taken consistently.
  • 5. 1. Beneficial digestive bacteria  Enterococcus Faecium have been found out as a normal part of the digestive tract. It cannot be eliminated from the digestive environment and will always be an integral portion of the intestinal flora. 2. Animal products with probiotics  Probiotics containing Enterococcus Faecium have been discovered to give a beneficial effect to animals, such as in dogs.
  • 6. 3. Safe and effective probiotics  According to studies, the carefully chosen and researched strains of Enterococcus Faecium are proved to be safe and effective.  They have been recognized as safe substances for the use of humans and in livestock businesses.
  • 7. 4. Antibiotics and enterococcus faecium  There are clinically challenging strains of enterococcus faecium that have been discovered. These are related to the indiscriminate use of antibiotics in humans and animals.  This type of enterococcus faecium strains has the ability to turn into an outbreak which can spread quickly, especially when the hospital sanitation procedures are poor or lacking.
  • 8. 5. Application of enterococcus faecium probiotics to aquatic species  Due to the rapid growth of aquaculture particularly in fish and shrimp farming industries, there is a constant threat for the outbreak of infectious diseases.  According to studies, the species Aeromonas and Vibrio are the most common pathogenic microorganisms that affect these industries.  In order to control the attack of these microorganisms, antibiotics have been used. Though, the use of antibiotics had led to resistance and limitations in market production.  In the study, it has been proved that probiotic use in aquatic species is helpful in improving their health and survival.
  • 9. 6. Use of enterococcus faecium in the cheese production  There have been a study which claimed the efficiency of cheese as the form of delivery of probiotic enterococcus faecium into the digestive tract.  This probiotic strain has been formerly known as having a beneficial part in the treatment of irritable bowel syndrome.  Though there is an increased efficiency in the delivery of probiotics to the digestive tract through cheese, it has also been discovered that it may affect the taste of the cheese product.
  • 10.  Probacto is the best probiotic that I have ever run into. They use multiple strains and they are spore forming so they can last while not refrigerated. They do not use cheap bacteria, but expensive ones such as B. Subtilis.  Probacto also contains prebiotics to help stimulate the growth of beneficial bacteria in your gut.  Probacto contains digestive enzymes to assist in your digestion.  Probacto is enteric coated and made to be slow release so it will release in your gut gradually.
  • 11.  The use of probiotics have brought many issues. These issues particularly revolve around its uses, mechanism of action, safety, and effectiveness. Studies proving these are still few. It is also important to consider that the different strains of probiotics are another concern. There may be some probiotics which are suitable in humans but not in animals and vice versa. Therefore, more focus should be given in discovering further information about these microorganisms. Especially in the case of enterococcus faecium, there have been studies which claim that its interaction with bacteria may lead to resistance and later on to outbreaks. Therefore, utmost care and keen attention to findings and its uses should be implemented.
