Introduction The 2001 Census represents the 14 in the series and the 6 after the Independence of India. In1881 thatcensus is being conducted in Indiaonce every 10 years. The 2001 Census enumeration came to a close on the 5th March, 2001 all over the country

Brief Analysis  of  The Provisional Result 2001 Census 1st March 2001.1 1,027,015,247 of which 531,277,078 were males and 495,738,169 were females. 166,052,859 in U.P. and 540,493 in Sikkim. GROWTH RATE OF POPULATION 1991-2001  The Growth rate decrease of 13.08 as compared to 1991 Census.
DENSITY OF POPULATION Delhi  9,294 persons per sq.km. and Arunachal Pradesh 13 persons per sq.km LITERACY The percentage of persons capable to read and write in any language in the whole of India was 65.38.  Literate males worked out to 75.85 and females 54.16.  Pondicherry ranks seventh in the whole of India.
