Fire in Pendlebury
Lilliemai Styles bravely rescued her
mum and dad from their burning
house. Waking up to the smoke,
she ran into her mum and dads
room, shouting them to wake up.
Alerting them, her dad, Darren
Styles, was able to go downstairs to
get their dogs. Her mum, Carla
Styles, placed towels over their
heads so that they could get out.
With this bravery, she was
rewarded withSalford Fire Station
manager Steve Forster presenting
Lilliemai with a bravery medal, a
letter of commendation and a
book token from the Greater
Manchester Fire and Rescue
Service chief fire officer Steve
McGuirk.
After the fire they moved in with her
grandparents in Eccles until the
kitchen was replaced.
Her school is very proud of Lilliemai,
so they held a surprise assembly for
her, where her and her friends were
able to have a tour around a fire
engine.
Her parents say “The firemen said
that two minutes more and we
wouldn’t have had a house. It
could have been fatal.”
“She saved us. When I opened the
door to the dining room Sox and
Blu were cowering on the floor so
that they didn’t inhale the smoke.
Thankfully we all managed to get
out of the house within minutes”
It was a great achievement for
Lilliemai, just 9 years old, to do such
a courageous act.
