Support Appeal for New Bus for Chronically Ill Children
1. August 2015
To Whom It May Concern:
MARANG HOUSE – APPEAL FOR A NEW/SECOND HAND BUS
Thank you very much for taking the time to read and consider our appeal for support.
Marang House was founded to provide medical care in a non-institutional environment to South Africa’s
chronically ill children. Many children in South Africa who suffer from life-threatening diseases do not have
the home-environments that will facilitate their recuperation and restoration to normal health. This lack of a
suitable environment results in young children living permanently in government hospitals, which is not only
unnecessary, but also has a negative impact on their survival and future health.
Our organisation cares for these affected children - who come from dire circumstances - by providing them
with a stable home-environment including a family setting, twenty-four hour medical care, regular monitoring
and hospital visits, nutritious meals and lots of love. We cater for twelve children between the ages of four
and fourteen who suffer from renal failure, diabetes, lung infections and other chronic diseases.
To sustain our operations we currently rely entirely on the support of individuals and businesses that are
committed to making a difference in the communities in which they live and operate. We have unexpectedly
been informed that the National Lotteries will no longer be funding us. It is in this regard that we appeal for
your support, we urgently require a new or good second hand 12 seater bus to transport our children to and
from the home in Northcliff to the Charlotte Maxeke Academic Hospital daily for schooling and treatment,
thus giving our chronically ill the opportunity to survive the many challenges they face on a daily basis.
Marang House is an (NPC incorporated under the company’s act 2008), Non-profit Company Registration
No. (006-182 NPC) and has been approved by SARS as a public benefit organization (PBO 930 003 724).
We have cared for more than 100 children since we opened our doors in 1998 - while saving the South
African government in excess of R30mln – and have had many success stories.
We would very much appreciate the opportunity to further elaborate on the importance of our organisation,
while explaining the many ways in which you can make a difference. Please don’t hesitate to contact me
directly should you have any further enquiries or are in need of any additional documentation. We await your
response with great anticipation.
Yours sincerely,
David Mapharisa
