DataStax Enterprise 4.6, the fastest, most scalable distributed database now integrates Apache Spark analytics on streaming data while providing enterprise-grade backup and restore capabilities to safeguard critical and distributed customer information.
Join established database expert and DataStax's VP of Products, Robin Schumacher, as he explores new capabilities in DataStax Enterprise 4.6 including security enhancements, analytics on streaming data and increased performance for modern web, mobile and IoT applications. Robin will discuss how the new OpsCenter 5.1 makes backup and restore processes push-button simple with the option of restoring critical data to and from the cloud taking the burden off database administrators.
Watch to learn how
- Faster and easier analytics with Spark SQL and Spark Streaming and simplified search make it easy to build scalable fault-tolerant streaming applications
- Enhanced server security with LDAP and Active Directory integration for easier external security management
- An automated high availability option allows a secondary OpsCenter service to take over, should a failure occur so your maintenance operations are always running

Getting Started
We were founded in April 2010, so we are a little over 4 years old. Today, we have about over 375 people and are growing incredibly fast. We are headquartered in Santa Clara, California and internationally located with offices across the U.S. and the globe.
We have over 400 customers that span many different verticals and many different use cases. These customers are using our technology to run their very mission-critical, very visible, bet-your-business kind of applications.
Currently 28 of the Fortune 100 use DataStax as their database technology of choice, which speaks to the level of enterprise nature of the problems with which we deal at DataStax. This has been a very remarkable journey and I’m going to tell you why, why is this company what it is doing, and why we are growing like we are growing.
You can now have a database infrastructure that truly is always-on. What I mean by Always-on is that it is always available and can withstand some serious losses. If this is a representation of our database that spanning 3 cities and some cloud provider, you can lose an entire city and not missing SLA.
If you ask a relational systems DBA to build a database in three data centers and in the cloud, they will say NO because it’s really difficult. With Cassandra, it’s easy. You get the ability to leverage cloud and different data centers in a seamless manner.
With Apache Cassandra at its core, you keep you performance at a level that will not slow down your business because today that interaction speed is everything. Microseconds now matter. Average human being blinks their eyes at 300 milliseconds. But now we are down to microseconds being the difference between great business and average business.
You can now have a reliable an underlying infrastructure that can scale with your business predictably, so you don’t worry about getting caught off guard when you want to add that new feature, or that new application. Imagine having an infrastructure that ready to go, and you don’t have to worry about the took-point of the database itself, which is often the biggest choke point in an application.
And you can do this in a way that does not crush your operational cost. In fact, your ownership ends up being so much easier when you are trying to do these systems at scale, because of the elegant architecture that we have at our core.
Technology is changing the face of retail dramatically. This is a quick look at the evolution of the customer engagement and loyalty initiatives at Safeway. Though Safeway is a company with a brick and mortar past, DataStax is helping to blur the boundary between the physical and the virtual store and transforming customer engagement in creative ways.
Safeway is providing a richer customer experience through their mobile app geared towards loyalty program members. The app allows users to clip coupons, search for products by aisles/categories, and be presented with personalized deals and offers based on the user’s past purchasing behavior.
About Apex Supply Chain Technologies is the global leader in automated dispensing and control systems for high-use, high-cost and mission-critical tools, supplies, parts and components. Using its cloud-based Trajectory™ software, Apex dispensing systems become true Internet appliances. Apex relies on a mix of Oracle and DataStax to support these IOT appliances to help their customers store and analyze user behavior to improve supply chain efficiencies.
DataStax is used to store and analyze time-series sensor data embedded in their dispensing machines so that they can track usage and purchasing behaviors to better manage inventory.
Netflix Engages 20 Million Subscribers with DataStax. Netflix uses DataStax to power its Profiles feature which allows them to deliver a customized experience to their customers. Ex: A family of four can share a single account, but each member may have its own profile so their Netflix experience is what they expect.
