Aughamore was a multi-product quarry producing aggregates, concrete blocks and ready-mixed concrete products with
a turnover of €10 million per annum and a maintenance budget of €350k per annum.
The operation produced 350,000 tonnes aggregate per year, 36,000 m3 of concrete and 2,500,000 blocks per year. Total
staff of 24 direct employees and 20 sub-contractors in 2004, was reduced to 8 direct employees and 6 sub-contractors by
2014 in response to a declining market demand that required restructuring based on continuous process improvement.
Role Overview
Plant Operation
▪ Directed plant operations to ensure that the productivity, quality, cost objectives of the plant were achieved.
▪ Liaised closely with relevant stakeholders including the Quality Manager, Sales Manager and both external and
internal customers to ensure all products met the correct quality standards and customer requirements and were
supplied in a timely manner
▪ Co-ordinated final production schedule based on priorities, available materials and human resources.
▪ Reviewed and directed budget and cost plans to ensure cost effective operation of the plant and minimization of
operating costs.

Process reengineering and Rationalisation
▪ Led the implementation of a restructuring and cost rationalization program, resulting in a reduction in workforce
by 70%, introduction of a 12 day inventory program, material usages and wastage control.

improvement.

Fleet Management
▪ Ensured the safe condition of the logistics fleet and ensured that all maintenance checks, daily, weekly, quarterly
and annually were completed and all issues actioned accordingly.
Safe and Secure Management of Blasting Operations
▪ Planned and managed blasting operations on site – highly responsible role vetted by Gardaí. Required regular
co-ordination with the explosives company’s shot firer and Gardaí.
