These days, virality seems privileged over quality in the distribution of news with truth and fact losing currency in decision making and democratic choices. Assertions which “feel right” but have no basis in fact seem to be accepted as valid on the grounds that they challenge elites and vested interests. Algorithms that sort us into groups of like-minded individuals create echo chambers that amplify our views, leave us uninformed of opposing arguments, and polarise our societies. Those algorithms are not a design flaw. They are the heart of why social media work. In this context, what can countries do to foster trust, as a fundamental prerequisite for social and economic well-being, for enhancing social cohesion and strengthening resilience, and for maintaining security and order in our societies? OECD’s Survey of Adult Skills (PIAAC) shows that education strengthens the cognitive and analytical capacities needed to develop, maintain, and (perhaps) restore trust in both close relationships as well as in anonymous others. It does so both directly, through building and reinforcing literacy and numeracy in individuals, and indirectly, through facilitating habits and reinforcing behaviours such as reading and writing at home and at work. Education and trust are thus fundamentally intertwined and dependent on each other.

This conference was hosted by the Centre for Post 14 Research and Innovation on the 08 November 2011. It focused on young people in London and the challenging, for some potentially hostile, environment in which they find themselves. It looked at what can be done and what is being done as London demonstrates, yet again, its resilience. The conference provided a platform for a dialogue taken forward both by the Institute of Education and by London Councils, as policy makers and practitioners come together to develop a strategy, in London, to rescue young people from the crisis that many of them now face.

E-LEArn2017 PrE-confErEncEsymPosium “moocsandopenEducationintheDevelopingWorld” n What do the World Bank, UNESCO, the Commonwealth of Learning (COL), the Inter-American Development Bank, and numerous other organizations and institutions around the globe have in common? They are all engaged in fascinating experiments to take advantage of advances in digital technologies and e-learning design to provide education, training, and professional development opportunities to people in developing countries who previously could not partake of these opportunities. One such delivery mechanism has been the massive open online course (MOOC) as well as various MOOC-like derivatives. Another is the use of open educational resources (OER). These efforts are already benefitting millions of people, but much potential for expansion and improvement remains.

Wizards are very useful for creating a good user experience. In all businesses, interactive sessions are most beneficial. To improve the user experience, wizards in Odoo provide an interactive session. For creating wizards, we can use transient models or abstract models. This gives features of a model class except the data storing. Transient and abstract models have permanent database persistence. For them, database tables are made, and the records in such tables are kept until they are specifically erased.
