Personal statement
My passionate belief in inclusive lifelong learning has grown out of my student’s
experiences and my own. They confirmed that learning can be life changing, that it
grows out of partnerships driven not by perceptions of need, incapacity, deficiency or
dependency but that of mutual capacity, shared potential and an interdependency
which is an asset, a source of strength and inclusivity. Potential will always be a
more dynamic concept than need.
I have demonstrated that creative activities in a social context can stimulate
community engagement and accelerate social learning because the sharing of
interests and of aspirations supports an inclusive dialogue accessible on so many
levels and disciplines. Such communities of practice have stimulated not only the
technical innovation that marked my career in the marine industry but also the
creative learning driven by reciprocity and fuelled by meaningful and vibrant
interactions as evidenced in my recent provision of “Creative Life Skills” for people
with learning disabilities in Torbay.
Key Skills
Innovative, creative, intuitive, empathic, and non judgemental.
