- This is the Title Screen for this lesson.
- Compliment the students on entering the Emergency Medical Responder program. Explain that helping others in their time of greatest need—when they are sick, injured, or possibly even dying—is a tremendous honor and not something that just anyone can do well. Let the students know that they are entering a modern public-service system (known as EMS) that has a great history of invention, accomplishment, innovation, and excellence—all with a core focus on helping people and saving lives. Explain that regardless of their reason for attending the training—whether for job skills, advancement, requirement, or just personal interest—they are on their way to becoming an important and necessary component of their community’s EMS system.
- Briefly explain each EMS component and how they assist with the overall mission of an EMS system.
- Give a brief overview describing how a hospitals emergency department works to stabilize patients and then move them to the appropriate in-hospital department. Go over the basic types of specialty hospitals and identify any in your area.
- Identify your local EMS system’s Medical Director and give examples of off-line and on-line medical direction.
