OVERVIEW
The Region is well-known for innovation
and accomplishments that are
‘Canadian Firsts’:
• We introduced NeuroArm, the
world’s first MRI-compatible
surgical robot - providing surgeons
unprecedented detail and control,
enabling them to manipulate tools
at a microscopic scale.
• We were the first in Canada to
offer Novalis Shaped Beam Surgery
to cancer patients – surgery without
scalpels using pinpoint doses of
radiation on tumours in the brain,
spine, liver and lung.
• Independent studies show that
Calgary is the best place in Canada
to beat the odds of surviving a
heart attack.
• The Region’s state-of -the-art
Alberta Children’s Hospital is the first
free-standing pediatric hospital to be
built in Canada in the last 20 years.
• Calgary’s four Emergency
Departments were the first in
the country to provide doctors
and nurses with on-line patient
lab results..
