  1. Welcome to the presentation on, “How Can Training Help in Lean Implementation in Your Organization?”
  2. Lean implementation is a process where various methods to eliminate waste are identified and processes are developed and streamlined with the objective of meeting the real needs of the customer. It originated in the manufacturing sector but is increasingly being implemented in other domains as well.
  3. Lean implementation is seen as an essential process for an organization to sustain in the long run. Let’s see some specific benefits of implementing Lean in an organization.
  4. With improved systems, there would be reduction in waste and fewer defects in the products. This will help in adding to the profits. Logistical improvements will help in better organization of physical space required and viable transportation and reduction in the waiting time for the materials required, thus giving lesser room for wasting man-hours.
  5. The business process will be able to respond quickly with fewer delays. It also ensures timely availability of the product in the market.
  6. Improving the efficiency will help the organizations to produce more products or goods for the same overheads, thus earning better profits.
  7. If there is less stock pile in the form of inventory of finished goods, it will automatically help in reducing the cash tied up with that stock. It ensures fewer borrowings from banks or other financial institutions. With the availability of cash, more money can be spent on producing essential goods.
  8. It improves customer service by delivering what exactly the customer wants and at the time they want it. Thus, in simple terms Lean enables delivering the right product to the right customer at the right place and time.
  9. Implementing Lean provides a competitive advantage to organizations resulting in substantial benefits not limited to those you see on the screen.
  10. No effort by an organization will be successful without the acceptance and support of its employees. This can be achieved through training. Therefore, training is an essential aspect of Lean implementation. Here are some training ideas for effective Lean implementation.
  11. Training strategy begins much before the actual training program right during the planning stage. So we will have to make initial preparations even before calling employees to attend training programs on Lean Management or Lean manufacturing. Let’s see what they are.
  12. You need to have senior personnel who will spearhead the movement towards a Lean organization. Ideally, they should be from the senior management, supervisors or managers responsible for a large team.
  13. You need to build basic awareness and information about Lean among your employees telling them why your organization is considering adopting the Lean policy. Once employees are convinced about the objective, they are more likely to be willing partners in the project.
  14. The best way to start an enterprise-wide Lean Training Program is to set up a Lean Learning Management System. This ensures all training efforts are integrated under one single platform.
  15. Lean implementation is an enterprise-wide effort and no single method would be complete in itself. A combination of training methods, such as classroom training, blended learning and eLearning, needs to be adopted to train various personnel—employees, managers or leaders who will lead projects. All these efforts can be coordinated through the LMS.
  16. Develop short training modules that can be viewed according to the convenience of users. It is best to break down a large concept into smaller units where employees can assimilate the information according to their grasping capacities.
  17. Not everyone needs to know all the information and there may be different levels of understanding that is needed. For example, basic fundamental concepts can be provided to all the employees irrespective of their levels. However, leadership training or Lean practitioners training can be given to trainers or managers who are spearheading the cause in their respective units or departments.
  18. Have a collaborative forum or discussion boards where practitioners can meet virtually to share their experiences and discuss challenges they face during Lean implementation.
  19. Lean Implementation is by no means a one-time activity but is a long-drawn process spanning several months and perhaps years. Therefore, training employees on Lean principles and procedures need to be through an integrated approach where multiple methods are adopted and integrated into a single system ideally through a Learning Management System.
