CASE STUDY: DISCOVER FINANCIAL SERVICES
Discover Financial Services announced plans for a $76 million
data center and 162 new call-center jobs at its campus in New
Albany. With a presence in the Columbus Region since 1985, the
company already has 1,500 employees and a payroll of $66.5
million at its campus. The new jobs will add $7.6 million to the Jobs: 162
payroll. Work on the project is expected to begin in July, with Capital Investment: $76.2 million
completion by August 2013. Facility: Data center
In addition to the Columbus Region, Discover considered 97,000 sf
locations in Arizona and South Carolina for the project. If they
had selected an alternative location, there would have been the
risk of jobs lost due to eventual consolidation away from the
Region. Key to the deal was a long-term plan, including state and
local tax incentives and a lease agreement with the Franklin
County Finance Authority, who will own the data center.
