discipline for the 21 century
• Different mental state required

• Change becomes continuous challenge

The scope is a new level of performance
Big organizations today are constantly launching large change projects and programs
(e.g. strategic changes, restructuring, changes in business / operating models, turnaround
etc.)
The common goal of these initiatives: To achieve a new level of performance
There are two critical challenges with large scale transformation
1. New performance only can be reached by building new capabilities
2. Transformation in organizations always means social and cultural change – a very
complex territory touching the nerve of the organization’s “immune system”
Large scale transformation needs a custom-made approach for scale-up and
multiplication
We see more and more the ambition to link fast, occasion driven transformations with
the idea of mid- and long-term cultural change

Aim of transformation management:

Time
Be as clear and fast as possible in the beginning –
keep the painful period as short as possible
Integrate the centers of power (not necessarily the same as hierarchy) early, keep
momentum, communicate from beginning on
Broader involvement step by step, use the uplift to empower and create new performance

Three key principles for organizational transformation
• Shape the story: Importance of the reason why and sense of urgency
Focus & • Get top management in front of the process
Speed • Act fast and with courage – especially in the first phase
• Prototype and use rapid results initiatives to pilot your change efforts
• Top management attitude: Participation & smart involvement is
Involvement & key success factor
Multiplication • Communication means dialogue not monologue
• Use the organization wisely for scale up and multiplication
• Build a plan for capability building activities (learning new capabilities
Change requires also making room i.e. getting rid of established procedures)
Architecture • Set a lean steering and monitoring structure for the process
• Chart the course with a transparent roadmap for transformation

Change Communication: 5 Forces of active Engagement
Balance between presentation and participation
Full disclosure and the public expression of doubt
Transparency during change also means that at certain events the word from the audience
becomes as important as the word from the podium – perhaps even more important
Real choice on the table
Many change efforts fail because employees on the large scale feel that there is no room for
interpretations left – their interpretations. If they cannot choose between cost cutting and no
cost-cutting – they want to choose “how” these things can be done.
New conversations
The texture and content of the conversations matter. Discuss the personal impacts the change
has on ME. Be careful about discussion HISTORY. Postpone discussions about ACTION PLANS in
the beginning. Discuss what part WE have played in creating the situation.
A physical structure of the room that supports community
Care about the places of engagement! Whatever the space you are given to work in, you
always have a choice. Use methods of prototyping and design thinking (e.g. get rid of the
tables, just use chairs and make room for new ideas).

What we do: Professional Transformation Management
Our philosophy: We support transformation processes in large organizations. We believe that successful
organizational change goes along with change in attitude and behavior as well as repertoire of people – i.e.
with building new capabilities. We believe: People don’t per se resist change, they resist conversion. Getting
people to move in new directions is a delicate discipline that needs the understanding of social system change
and requires a professional transformation management repertoire.

Consulting in Change Initiatives
The consulting approach is based on the idea to provide a senior team of experts with a good mix of skills,
knowledge and experience. We understand consulting as a process of backstage support (e.g. “co-piloting” the
internal change agents), creating skills/capabilities and enabling the organization. Our rule is: Transformation
and change is a leadership discipline – we support leaders for growth and excellence in this field.
Therefore we…
offer state of the art proven approaches and perspectives. We help to tailor the right concepts – we do not
deliver pre-fabricated approaches;
mix quick wins (breakthrough) with sustainable change goals
help to connect the competence and generate new ideas in the organization – and to organize
involvement and facilitate collaboration and cooperation. This ensures energy for successful change;
coach top management, leaders and teams for orientation and change. This is crucial as successful
transformation depends of the visible attitude and engagement of leaders.
We believe in process-orientated consulting. This means that the intervention focuses from the beginning on
the capacity building aspects. The best results and impact will be achieved by building and supporting a strong
internal project and scale up structure and powerful governance. Step by step we more and more people will
be involved in the process for understanding and learning purposes.
In order to bring excellent outcomes of process consulting the expert team needs to combine business
knowledge as well as social and psychological skills. This combination has the potential to deliver real
sustainable transformation and change in mindset.
