CHRISTINE WEIR
Foreword by Dr Lance Maron (ENT Surgeon and Voice Specialist)
Illustrated by Tarryn Bydawell
When Christine Weir was in her early twenties, she was told by a classical singing teacher that
she had a perfect voice for German Lieder. She learnt all the standard methods but found that
she was going nowhere. Until she met the legendary singing teacher Sarie Lamprecht.
It was Sarie who taught her to “shut your trap and sing”.
Christine’s singing career has spanned two decades, both as a performer and as a teacher. In
this book she shares, through explanations, illustrations and case histories, the techniques that
she herself has developed through her own learning and reading, as well as performing, and
hearing the improvements of her own students. To Christine, the voice is an audible expression
of our souls and, honed correctly, it can bring tears to the eyes of the most hardened of hearts.
Lured by the African sun, Christine Weir’s parents moved
from Scotland to Benoni, South Africa when she was
five years old. Her parents started both an amateur
dramatic group and a choir, and encouraged their
children to partake in all the arts. Thereafter,
a profession in the Performing Arts seemed
inevitable and she went on to study Drama
at the Pretoria Technikon.
Christine and her brother Graham are
the founder members of the award-winning
comedy acapella group Not the Midnight Mass.
Christine’s solo work has included performances in
musical theatre, and acting for stage and TV.
Shut your Trap and Sing! is her first book.
