Christine O'Connor Writing Sample TWLOHA Pitch
1. This is an example of a pitch I wrote at MPRM for a live talk show appearance by Kat
Dennings and Jamie Tworkowski to discuss the To Write Love on Her Arms DVD
release.
Subject:
Kat Dennings Available to Discuss New Film, To Write Love On Her Arms
Body:
One in every ten adults in the U.S. has reported suffering from depression. One in
every 12 U.S. adults lives with substance abuse. Many go without the care,
treatment, and community essential to recovery, causing those affected to withdraw
out of learned helplessness. While secrecy, isolation, and negative cyclical behavior
can consume those suffering from depression and other mental health disorders, the
non-profit To Write Love On Her Arms (TWLOHA) aims to, “encourage, inform, and
inspire” individuals to break the silence and seek help.
Founded in 2006 by Jamie Tworkowski, TWLOHA has come a long way from its
humble beginnings as a blog and t-shirt company to fund an individual’s recovery.
Since its inception, the organization has dedicated itself to “presenting hope and
finding help for people struggling with depression, addiction, self-injury, and
suicide.” Jamie’s story about helping his friend recuperate has grown into a national
movement supported by individuals, musicians, and now, a film, starring Kat
Dennings and Chad Michael Murray, which will be available on DVD March 3, to
mark the beginning of Self Harm Awareness Month.
Jamie hopes to continue his mission of investing “directly into treatment and
recovery” for those who need it and wishes to increase exposure of the issues to
broader audiences. Please let me know if you are interested as I am happy to
coordinate an interview with Jamie to discuss TWLOHA’s evolution and potential
next steps, the process of turning the story into a film, and the inspiration behind his
upcoming book, “If You Feel Too Much,” which hits shelves on May 19. Kat may also
be available to talk about what it was that inspired her to get involved in the project
and her thoughts on driving a national conversation on the issues at hand.
Attached is the press release for the DVD launch; please let me know if you are
interested in viewing the film and I would be happy to send you a screener.
Best,
Christine
