Expectations (expectativas) and Procedures (reglas) For Ms. Lilly’s SJMS
Students
Classroom Expectations (expectativas)
1. Follow directions the first (1st) time they are given.
2. Be in the classroom and seated when the bell rings.
3. Keep hands, feet, and objects to yourself.
4. Silently listen while the teacher or another student is speaking.
Classroom Procedures (what we do in this class)
A) Entering the classroom – You must enter class silently. Whispering is not allowed.
B) Moving to your seat and Supplies – After you have walked through the front door to the classroom
silently, walk to the desk that is assigned to you without talking. Take out 2 pencils and any other
supplies that you will need (sometimes you will need a highlighter). All other supplies go in your desk.
Quietly wait for Ms. Lilly to show you what your focus activity will be.
C) Quiet signs – If the class is doing an activity but then Ms. Lilly needs that class’ attention, she will
use different signals to ask the students to be quiet and pay attention. Two quiet signs are the
following:
a. Clap it quiet: Ms. Lilly will say “clap two times if you can here me”. When students
hear this, they should clap two times put down anything that they are working on, look at Ms.
Lilly, and be still and silent.
b. Count down from five: In order to get the attention of the class after group work, Ms.Lilly will
count down from five (5, 4, 3, 2, 1) When you hear Ms.Lilly counting, do the following five
things:
1. Be silent
2. Be still
3. Look at Ms. Lilly
4. Listen to Ms. Lilly
5. Put down anything in your hands
F) What to do when you finish class work early – If you have successfully completed your class work,
check it over. After you have finished your work and checked it, you have two options:
a. Sit silently and wait for the next instruction.
b. Choose something from the “Finished List” to do. Raise your hand and tell Ms. Lilly what
you want to do. Keep your book or activity with you until the end of class and then put it
away.
D) Homework completion – Homework will be given every Tuesday. For homework to be
considered complete, all parts of the homework must be complete. Homework is due on Thursday.
E) Handing in homework – Homework must be handed in to the Exit Slip bin when you enter into the
classroom on Thursday. Late homework will not be accepted. No homework will be counted as a 0%
F in the gradebook. If you are absent, stay after class the next day and get it.
F) Moving in the classroom – Students must have Ms. Lilly’s permission to get out of their seat at any
time throughout the class period.
G) Sharpening pencils – Pencils should be sharpened before class begins. If both of your pencils
need sharpening, use the sharpener in your table’s pencil pouch. If you do not have a pencil, you may

borrow one of Ms. Lilly’s when you enter into the classroom. Sign your name when you take one and
return the pencil at the end of class and erase your name.
H) Getting a tissue – If you need to use a tissue, raise one of your hands and touch your nose with the
other. If we are at an important moment in the lesson, Ms.Lilly will ask you to wait.
I) Bathroom – Students need to use the bathroom in between classes. They will not be
allowed to use it during class.
J) Throwing away trash– All trash is to be kept at your desk until the end of class.
At the end of class, take your trash as well as any trash on the ground near your
desk and place it in the trashcan.

student should raise their hand but not call out with their voice.

need :
1) two pencils 2) a folder with 5 or more blank sheets of paper in it AND your ticket bag attached
M) End of class dismissal – Ms. Lilly, not the sound of the bell, will tell the class when it is time to get
ready to go.
1.) When Ms.Lilly will says “you may begin your exit”, silently work on it.
2.) When you finish your exit, take it to the Exit Slip bin and place it facing down in the bin.
3.) Go back to your table, clean up your desk, and put away books, activities, and pencils if
you borrowed one.
4.) Stack your supplies on your desk and sit quietly until Ms. Lilly dismisses your table by
saying “Table __, you are dismissed”. She will dismiss the quietest and cleanest table. Push
in your chairs when you leave.
N) Fire Drill/Emergency – For emergency drills and real emergencies, we will stay calm and quiet and
listen to Ms. Lilly’s directions. If we need to leave the classroom, students need to walk in a straight,
quiet line and follow Ms. Lilly.
O) Cheating policy – Cheating doesn’t help you learn, and we are here to learn. If a student is seen
cheating, he/she will be given a 0% on that assignment and a phone call home.
Q) Visitor policy – Because we are a class with big goals and excellent students, we will have more
visitors in our classroom than normal. Do not be distracted by visitors, but instead, keep working hard
and show them what it looks like to be the best English class in all of Roanoke City!
