- At the end of the 19th Century, “the game” was played differently, with different rules and different pitch sizes. Some used their hands, others just the feet. The International Rugby Board (IRB) was founded in 1886. Also the people involved in “our game” decided that it was necessary to unify the rules, promote and develop the game in order to be able to organise international competitions. Questions one could ask: DOES ANYBODY know WHO exactly is in charge of the LAWS OF THE GAME? (People will answer: “referees, FIFA, the national associations etc.” IFAB is not very well known. But it is IFAB (International Football Association Board). It consists of 8 people and 6 are necessary for a rule change. FIFA has 4 votes and England, Wales, Scotland and Northern Ireland each one. DOES ANYBODY KNOW WHO THE FOUNDING ASSOCIATIONS WERE? (People guess “England, Brasil, Germany, Italy etc.)
- Interesting is to answer the question why Australia is within the Asian Confederation (better chances to qualify – political reasons) and why Israel belongs to UEFA (because it would be much more difficult for Israel to play in its neighbour countries and vice-versa => political reasons). FIFA counts 250 Mio . registered players … … of which 40 Mio. are girls and women. 99.8% amateurs und about. 80% juniors.

- The most important point is that the FIFA World Cup is still – by far – the biggest single cost item in FIFA’s budget. The fact that 72% of the budget is reinvested into football needs to be stressed (as public opinion is sometimes different)
