Libraries Demystified
Ellen W. Faran is director of the MIT Press. Faran has over thirty-five years’ experience
in trade, professional and scholarly publishing at Houghton Mifflin; Farrar, Straus &
Giroux; HarperCollins; the National Academy Press; and the Folger Shakespeare
Library. She has a BA in English from Radcliffe College and an MBA from the Harvard
Business School.
Fred M. Heath is Vice Provost and Director of The University of Texas Libraries at UT
Austin. He previously served as Dean of Libraries at Texas A&M University and as
Library Director of Texas Christian University. He has served as President of the ARL
Board of Directors and the Virginia Library Association, and as Chair of the Texas
Council of State University Librarians and the Big 12+ Library Consortium (now GWLA).
Heath has served on the advisory boards of SPARC, CNI, and the Center for Research
Libraries (CRL). He is also a co-developer of the library assessment protocol, LibQUAL+.
Peter Berkery joined the Association of American University Presses as Executive
Director in March 2013, coming from Oxford University Press where he was Publisher
of the US Law Division. Prior to that he spent 11 years at Wolters Kluwer. Berkery has a
BA in Classical Studies from Boston College, and both an MA and JD from The
American University, as well as a Master of Laws in Taxation from George Washington
University. He is also a Certified Financial Planner.
Angela M. Carreño is the Head of Collection Development for the Division of Libraries at
New York University, where she is the primary licensing officer for consortial collection
development. She represents the Division of Libraries on collaborative
projects, including the Manhattan Research Libraries Initiative (MaRLI) and has worked
in close collaboration with NYU's branch campus library in Abu Dhabi, a library with an
e-preferred collection policy. Carreño currently serves as the Chair of the Northeast
Research Libraries'(NERL) Program Council and is a current member of the advisory
boards for Oxford, Wiley, Sage, and Brill.
Leila W. Salisbury is the director of the University Press of Mississippi and was formerly
marketing director of the University Press of Kentucky. At UPM she also acquires the
regional and film/popular culture studies lists. She is a member of the MUSE/UPCC
advisory board and is active in the Association of American University Presses, currently
serving on its board of directors and several committees. She also writes a regular
column for Against the Grain.
