• Charisma, personal traits, other individual factors do not count
• Development and using skills that move people and organizations 
  forward toward goals do count
• Helping people reach their full potential matters
• Understanding complexity within business environments and taking 
  on the challenge is extremely important
• Knowing diversity of people, thoughts and perspectives are reality 
  and important
• Recognizing competition is outside not internal
• Ethics, ethics, ethics
• Managing ambiguity and change is absolutely necessary

    rewards, and time
•   Keep improving yourself and competence

•   Make sure potential leaders gain different 
    perspectives through mentoring.

Appraise performance:
• Appraise performance compared to goals. This is an 
  ongoing process not a onetime event.
• Improve the potential leader’s performance. Have 
  ongoing in depth discussions.
• Identify current or potential problems. Maintain 
  positive performance. Catch people doing things 
  right. Develop a positive working relationship.
• Updates quarterly. Appraisal yearly. Development 
  yearly.

Developing Followers:
• To be an excellent leader a person must first  be an 
  excellent follower
• Potentials leaders have the ability to think independently 
  while a member of a team.
• They have a high level of commitment in every role they 
  are in.
• They stay focused and look for way to improve their own 
  performance.
• They have courage of conviction, are honest and 
  establish credibility.
