This document discusses Microsoft's cloud-based strategy for Office 2013. It provides an overview of how Office 2013 moves users into the cloud by leveraging services like SkyDrive for file storage and sharing. It also discusses how Office applications are becoming available as web apps and on mobile platforms. Finally, it examines Microsoft's new subscription-based licensing model for Office 365 and how this shifts Office onto multiple devices and platforms in the cloud.
2. Microsoft Office 2013 and the Cloud
This session will explore Microsoft's cloud-based strategy
for the newest release of the Microsoft Office application
suite-Office 2013. An overview of how Office 2013 moves
the end user into the cloud and the potential
benefits, particularly cross-platform compatibility, will be
discussed. The session will include a look at how Microsoft's
adoption of cloud computing affects the nuts and bolts of
working in the different Office applications including old
standards such as Word, Excel and PowerPoint and how
this new strategy leverages new application tools such as
Lync and OneNote. The session will include a look at
Microsoft's new Office licensing strategy and how it affects
end-users--including home, small business and corporate
users.

11. Office 365 Subscriptions
• Business and Enterprise (volume licensing): This version of the
Office 365 subscriptions are priced per user and provide the Office
Professional Plus edition of the Office 2013 software. This level of
subscription also gives a business other network services, including
multiple SharePoint sites and Microsoft Server[nd]hosted services
such as Active Directory and Exchange server (the Microsoft
communication server). This subscription level is intended for
medium-sized and large businesses that do not want to administer
their own network infrastructure.
• Office 365 Small Business Premium: This subscription provides
Word, Excel, PowerPoint, OneNote, Outlook, Publisher, Access, Lyn
c, and InfoPath (the same as the Pro Plus purchase installation
bundle). This bundle is user specific and allows a single subscriber
to use the Office software on up to five devices.
• Office 365 Home Premium: This subscription provides
Word, Excel, PowerPoint, OneNote, Outlook, Publisher, and Access
(the same as the Pro Plus purchase installation). You can install the

• Inspect Document: This tool inspects the document for specific
content such as comments, annotations, document properties, and
hidden text. The main purpose of the inspector is to help ferret out
personal information that you might have inadvertently stored in the
document.
• Check Accessibility: This tool opens the Accessibility Checker task
pane in the document and provides a list of warnings related to
accessibility issues in your document. For example, several blank
lines between paragraphs might signal to a person using a screen
reader that the document has ended. As you select each warning in
the task pane, you are presented with information on why you
should fix the issue and suggestions on how to fix it.
• Check Compatibility: This tool checks the file for items that are not
supported by earlier versions of the application that you are using.
For example, I might have used the Citation and Bibliography
features in Word 2013, but the Compatibility Checker tells me that
earlier versions of Word (Word 97–2003) need to convert these
items to static text.
