Goldfields Logistics was awarded with a
3 year contract for Sasol Performance
chemicals wax division,Sasol wax. We
have been up and running since
February 2016.
Sasol Performance Chemicals, Wax
division is a leading specialist in
innovative wax technology, selling high
quality wax products for a variety of
industries and application areas, such
as adhesives, polymers, bitumen
modification, packaging, inks, paints,
coatings, rubber and tyre, construction
boards, candles, personal care,
cosmetics, pharmaceuticals, and other
industrial applications. Providing a
comprehensive range of synthetic and
mineral oil based paraffin waxes and
petroleum jellies, this Sasol division
offers their customers tailor-made
solutions unlocking real business value
globally.
▪ Gldf Alrode warehouse area has
22 000 square meters storage.
▪ We have dedicated vehicles
(trucks) shuttling between Sasol-
wax plant Sasolburg and Alrode.
▪ Our employees are split into 3
shifts as the Alrode warehouse
operates 24/7.
▪ Currently we dispatch approxi-
mately 600 tons and receive ap-
proximately 600 tons on a daily
basis.

6. Goldfields Logistics has been awarded the
permit to operate the first Performance Based
Standards (PBS) tautliner in KwaZulu-Natal.
The Imperial Logistics group company expects
this highly efficient new “smart” truck to deliver
cost savings and service improvements for
clients.
“We see this as a great new partnership that
we are forging with our clients,” comments
Pieter Grobler.
Because a PBS vehicle is substantially longer
than a standard truck, it offers an increased
payload. This means that fewer trucks can be
used for the same volumes, thereby reducing
road damage and CO2 emissions.
“This vehicle can only drive on dedicated
routes that have been approved by the
Department of Transport in the Province that
the permit applies to,” says Pieter Grobler.
Expanding on its features and dimensions, he
reveals that it will be pulled by a Volvo 520 and
a six-axle tautliner. “This tautliner will be a
front trailer of 8.3m and a back trailer of 13.4m.
The total vehicle length will be 25.7m, in
comparison to 22m for a normal link. This
vehicle will be able to have a payload of 49
500kg; while a normal link can carry 36 000kg.
Its total gross weight will be 72 282kg,
compared to 56 000kg for a standard link.”
Goldfields Logistics will operate the vehicle on
the following approved routes:
● Goldfields Logistics Pinetown/Freightmax
to Sappi Tugela
● Sappi Tugela to Goldfields Logistics
Pinetown/Freightmax
● Goldfields Logistics Pinetown/Freightmax
to Sappi Stanger
● Sappi Stanger to Goldfields Logistics
Pinetown/Freightmax
The PBS vehicle will be equipped with load
sensors on each axle and a printout of the
payload can be done in the cab, which will en-
sure that the vehicle will not be overloaded
“We will first run this vehicle for a period and
then increase the number of vehicles on these
routes. By following this process, we believe
that we can make this concept a huge
success,” says Pieter Grobler.

Something interesting about yourself that your co-workers did not know? I grew up in a family with 10 children, I have 6
brothers apart from me and 3 sisters.

Do you have children? Yes, I have 4 beautiful children aged 8,6,5 and 1
How long are you a Goldfields Logistics employee? I have been with Goldfields for 6 going on 7 Months and I love it
As what/how did you start at Goldfields? I was picked out of 400 candidates for an interview and I got afforded the opportunity
to work for such an amazing company for which I am extremely blessed
Which outdoor activities do you like? Myself and my family enjoy going fishing, camping going for walks or going for drives
and discovering new places
What sport do you like or support? I enjoy watching Rugby as well as MotoGP. I am also a Sharks supporter
Something interesting about yourself that your co-workers did not know? I’m an open book there is nothing that they do not
know about me, I’m a real softy at times although I appear hard. But what my co-workers don’t know is that I appreciate every
single one of them and I am so grateful that I have been given the opportunity of working with every single person at this
warehouse and I don’t tell them this enough.
