3. Plot Summary
The story takes place in a small village of La Pez in Mexico. A poor diver named
Kino gathers pearls to provide for his wife Juana and Baby Coyotito.
One day Kino’s son got horribly bitten by a scorpion. When the doctors refuse to
treat Coyotito.
Kino and his wife go out to the estuary and while Juana puts a seaweed treatment
on his shoulder Kino dives soon to realize that he found the pearl of the world.
Kino is astonished by the sudden wealth and starts thinking about his families
future. Unlike Kino, Juana believes that the pearl is full of evil.
