The Reporting Sensei Program is
aimed at training and empowering
select individuals within the
organization to safely, securely, and
intelligently access and extract Clarity
production data.
Mission Statement

• With the majority of UCSF’s clinical and financial
data available in the Clarity database, there has
been a growing demand from many departments
to extract this data and turn it into meaningful
information.
• To re-present, tailor, and reformat the EPIC
Clarity training content with the inclusion of real-
world examples and more emphasis on SQL as a
means of providing trainees with a working
knowledge of APeX work flows.
• This is accomplished through:

2. Monthly Office Hours
3. Chatter Group
Objective of the program

Phase I
Individuals who have used Apex and have a good
understanding of their department’s operational
workflows, as well as have a good knowledge of
relational databases and writing SQL scripts.
Phase II
Fellows, Researchers, Administrative users who have a
good understanding of the operational workflows. It is
required for the trainees to have good knowledge of
relational databases and basic SQL expertise. Trainees
are selected based on review of a valid business case
they submit to the Reporting Sensei Program Faculty
sponsors.

(selection, joins, where clause, etc)
• Understanding of Clarity tables (table
relationships) for various applications
• Using tools to help report
development (data dictionary, record
viewer, Clarity compass)
