Work plans development
Kano-Katsina-Maradi action site –
Day 2
Process
• Putting different activities under relevant
IDOs
• Prioritizing outputs for different activities
under the IDOs using the activity plan
template
• Identifying gaps
• Ranking the ten activities
IDOs and activities
WAS&DS # Activity cluster title IDOs Ranking
1. Establish reference situation / baselines for the action sites 1,2,3,4,5,6,7 1
2. Assess and monitor biomass and resource flow for the actions
sites
1,4 5
3. Review past work on dryland systems in the region and draw
lessons on successes, failures and gaps in knowledge for
sustainable intensification and vulnerability
1,3,4,5,7 3
4. Facilitate effective linkages and knowledge exchange among
different actors for improved system productivity and better
market access
3,5,6,7 2
5. Quantify resource use and associated tradeoffs to optimize
community level-level decision making to promote sustainable
intensification and vulnerability reduction
4,7 9
6. Promote local and regional knowledge generation and exchange
for scaling up and out of promising intensification options and
strategies
1,3,6,7 8
7. Coordinate and harmonize database management and research
methods
1,2,3,4,5,6,7 10
8. Induce intensification and improve resource use efficiency
through on-farm testing and evaluation of technologies
1,4 4
9. Review, analyze, develop and test community-based strategies
for resource management including land tenure, seed systems,
conflict management
5,6,7 7
10. Develop and test value adding strategies for post-harvest
management, processing and use of agricultural produce and by-
products
1,3 6
Gaps
• Policy analysis especially in Activity #6 promoting
local and regional knowledge generation and
exchange for scaling up and out
• Processing of other agricultural products and not
just forest products (Activity 10)
• Ensure modeling includes socio-economic and
institutional issues in addition to biophysical
(Activity 5)
• Effects of infrastructural development (e.g. roads) on
livelihoods of the rural poor in dryland areas
• Nutrition (both quantity and quality) of the
vulnerable groups (Activity 10)
