Dear Interim Mayor Gloria and Councilmembers,
The Center on Policy Initiatives supports the Barrio Logan Community Plan Update Alternative 1 that
the City Council will vote on September 17. As an older community in San Diego, Barrio Logan has
suffered from a disproportionate burden of pollution and lack of infrastructure and access to services.
Alternative 1 will bring improved quality of life and increased economic development to this
neighborhood. It balances the myriad demands on this important part of the City by increasing prime
industrial lands, protecting the current land uses while responding to the health needs of the residents, and
it is expected to create jobs. Moreover, it incentivizes and supports housing development at the
affordability levels the residents and workers need.
The Center on Policy Initiatives has a long history of advocating for social and economic justice for
working families in San Diego. Alternative 1 is the right vision for Barrio Logan. We urge you to vote in
favor of Alternative 1.
