Social entrepreneurs are blending a social purpose with their profitable companies. Learn how these “hybrid business models” impact the operations of a business and the decisions that innovative leaders must make. What does it take to be a socially minded business? What does it mean for investors, employees, partners and customers? This panel discussion will be moderated by Jim Schorr, Chair of the Social Enterprise Alliance, and newly named Senior Fellow in Social Entrepreneurship at Berkeley-Haas.
Registrants will be provided with materials prepared by B-Lab, a nonprofit that certifies B Corporations. The content will go beyond the definitions and highlight the lessons and experience of the panelists.

Jim Schorr
Senior Fellow in Social Entrepreneurship, Berkeley-Haas
Jim Schorr has been a catalyst in the social entrepreneurship movement for the past 20 years,
initially as a co-founder of Net Impact as an MBA student, subsequently as CEO of Juma
Ventures, and currently as Board Chair of the Social Enterprise Alliance.He also was a founding
board member of one of the early B Corporations, Evergreen Lodge, and is currently developing
a new social enterprise that is being formed as a benefit corporation and will launch in October
2012. After two years teaching at Haas in 2007-08, followed by three years at Vanderbilt
University, Professor Schorr returns to Haas in 2012-14 as a Senior Fellow in Social
Entrepreneurship.He received his MBA from the Kellogg School of Management at
Northwestern University, and his BS from the University of Tennessee.
Andy Fyfe
Community Development at BLab
Andy Fyfe works in Community Development for the nonprofit B Lab. B Lab is dedicated to using
the power of business to address the world's most pressing social and environmental problems.
Andy has a background in microfinance, non-profit management, co-working space design and
operations, and is an alum of University of Colorado at Boulder with a BA in International Affairs
and a certificate in Peace and Conflict Studies. For B Lab, Andy works to build the community of
Certified B Corporations and amplify the voice of these entrepreneurs by differentiating
themselves through standards, being legally protected to consider stakeholders, as well as
accessing mission-aligned capital.
Mike Hannigan
President and Co-Founder of Give Something Back
Mike Hannigan, President and Co-Founder, in 1991, of Give Something Back Office Supplies has
been in the forefront of the growing movement to harness the power of business on behalf of
the Community as primary stakeholder. Mike has a BA in Philosophy from UC San Diego and a
Masters in Criminology from UC Berkeley. Following an accidental business career starting in
1978 at Xerox, he partnered with Sean Marx in 1991 to start Give Something Back on the
Newman's Own business model. GSB has been on the Inc.500 List of the fastest growing private
companies 4 times, is a founding B-Corporation. GSB is headquartered in Oakland, California.
Mike lives in Berkeley.
