Christophe de Jongh and Matthias Salinger have formed a collaborative partnership to develop a modular, mobile architecture project using repurposed shipping containers. Their collaboration began serendipitously when Harm Nadijer saw Salinger's container project and connected him with de Jongh in Groningen. The project aims to develop sustainable, high-tech living and work spaces that are portable and can be adapted over time. Success will mean rethinking design and using containers to generate renewable, self-sufficient structures that support local craftspeople. The collaboration is special because it requires the partners to fully embrace the vision of developing trend-setting modular architecture to communicate new ideas about flexible living.

1.Describe your collaborative partnership
Our collaborative partnership had its beginning by chance. As for this case I created a
project, HighCube Seacontainer, in Oldenburg – Harm Nadijer (OLEx), a freelance stage
designer, saw my project by chance because he worked for the theatre in Oldenburg.
Then Harm got in touch with me, because he is also responsible for the project OPEN
LAP EBBINGE.
Thus the overall contact with Groningen was established - to Christophe de Jongh,
Christophe is one of the Creative persons – and inspired me to start this project for me.
Some talks with the township of Groningen und with the OLEx-group supported me to
start a project.
Moreover the city of Oldenburg will care for establishing a C.C.C group – It will be
attempted to support these working groups and to bring them together.

2. Provide evidence of your success (eg generation of new ideas, services and
products; financial return; generation of new jobs, any other positive results)
The success is that you have to restructure your thinking.
Why: With the project – modular, mobile architecture – new ways and new
means of thinking are initiated and activated!
Space saving, HighTEC offices and apartments which can be everywhere at
any time, which are extendable, firm or can be interim solutions.
The basis is the HighCubeSeacontainer – its structure (the outer shell) is not
changed.
Eg the project can be commercially amortised within 10 years (movable good).
The regional handcraft will be supported – crafts as – metalworker, carpenter,
electric, sanitary, etc. will be needed.
For the HighTec domain persons are needed who know about the IT,
renewable energies can be used – and if you live the project – the HighCubes
can be created self-sustaining.
The project can be transported by sea, water, road and air and it can be
recycled for the main part.

1.Why is your collaboration special and not a
typical client-customer relationship?
The conceptual formulation and the connected
sensitiveness as for this project is a first-class
challenge and not “typical”.
Moreover I think that the persons involved must
“live” this project – not only richness of ideas , no
– but a little bit “craziness” belong to this – with
the thought – to present trend-setting, self-
consistent modular, mobile architecture and to
communicate this to the public – thus you can
see that this type of architecture includes a
forward-looking idea. Inspiring for a rethinking to
be flexible with this kind of architecture – but to
be at home inside. These are demanding,
individual, multifunctional seacontainers which at
any time can be matched with new demands for
the architecture for living space or the industry’s
and business’ architecture.
I think that the owner must “live” this language.
It would be desirable that the local authority
would be open for such an architecture – in the
time of change.
