This document summarizes major flooding events that occurred across Europe in June 2013. It describes different types of floods such as those caused by snowmelt, heavy rainfall, ice jams, and wind surges. The bulk of the document consists of over 30 photos showing extensive flooding in Germany, Austria, Switzerland, Hungary, Slovakia, Poland, and the Czech Republic. The photos depict flooded homes, streets, churches, and fields as well as damage control efforts like building sandbag walls. At least 18 people were killed and tens of thousands had to evacuate their homes due to the heavy rains and overflowing rivers across Central Europe in June 2013.

Types of floods:
Flood - recurrent rather long rise in water level in rivers, usually caused by
spring snowmelt in plains or rainfall.
Flooding - intensive relatively short rise in water level in the river caused by
heavy rains, rains, sometimes rapid melting of snow during thaws.
Wort - clogging the channel stationary ice cover, and a heap of ice floes
during spring break at narrow and meandering river channel, feel free to
flow and causing the water level rise in accumulation of ice and above it.
Ice jams - an ice plug, the accumulation of frazil, loose ice during the winter
freeze-up at narrow and meandering riverbed, causing the rise of water in
some areas above the main channel of the river.
Wind surge - is the rise of the water level in marine estuaries of major rivers
and coastal areas on windy seas and large lakes, reservoirs, caused by
exposure to strong wind on the water surface.
