Skills profile
Skill Evidence
Communication and
interpersonal skills.
Teamwork
I regularly work behind the bar at a local pub. This has developed
my communication skills as especially when serving a large
number of customers under a lot of pressure I must be clear and
professional at all times.
When volunteering at a fundraising event, I was required to be
extremely enthusiastic and in touch with the people attending
the event in order to create a friendly atmosphere.
My communication skills are also demonstrated by willingness to
express opinions and confidently explain critical points to a large
group in University seminars.
Following my dissertation at University, I was required to
produce and communicate a presentation on the topic to group
of around 30 people. I had to clearly and confidently express my
findings from independent research. The audience did not have
prior knowledge of the subject, so speaking with clarity and
effectiveness to give insight was extremely important.
I have completed a project as part of my University course called
maths at work, which involves looking into the credit risk to
mortgage lenders. To do this, as part of a group of 6, we were to
write a report on the topic which needed be of the highest quality
and done with minimal assistance. Therefore, working as a team was
key in ensuring the project was successful, and each individual’s
work fit together perfectly.
When working at Ultra Finishing Ltd I was required to work as part of
a team to complete various tasks for the sales and purchase ledger.
As I was not experienced in that type of work at the time it was
essential for me to listen and communicate with my colleagues to
enable tasks could be completed effectively.

Attention to Detail
Employment Summary
2013-2014 – Industrial placement at Ultra Finishing Ltd - I primarily worked as part of the
sales ledger team with some responsibilities including processing various payments from
customers, reviewing customer’s credit limits and taking legal action against debtors. I also
assisted the management accountant looking into the recovery of carriage costs and over
budget discount figures.
2010 to present - Bar maid - Serving a large number of customers whilst maintaining a calm
and friendly demeanour at all times.
2009 to 2011 - Sales assistant - Serving customers, handling money, and working under
pressure.
Other interests/skills
Volunteer – In the summer of 2012, I volunteered at a fundraising event for an acquaintance
with Multiple Sclerosis.
Farming assistant – My grandparents own a small farm, which they run by themselves.
Therefore, I regularly help out, especially at busy times.
Computer skills – Confident using Microsoft Excel. I also have experience with the
mathematical progrmmes Maple and R as well as Sage and Solvitt.
Full, Clean UK driving licence
When assisting on a farm it is critical to work as a team so that there
are no jobs left incomplete as this could resort in injury to us or the
livestock. Therefore I am extremely aware of how to communicate
well and be flexible as part of a team to ensure that everything is
done correctly and to the highest standard.
I have never missed a lecture or any other University workshop etc.
In college I was also awarded a prize for full attendance which
demonstrates my motivation to succeed.
I am also working part time to fund studies, which again
demonstrates my self-discipline and ability to manage various tasks.
As a farming assistant you are required to be available at some very
unusual/unsociable hours. I believe this demonstrates a great deal of
dedication especially when I am required to be patient and care for
any potential un well animals no matter what the time, or how poor
conditions may be.
Whilst working at Ultra Finishing Ltd I was assigned a research task
on a key account which I had to complete alongside my regular daily
duties for a specific deadline. Therefore I was responsible for my
own time management, and was required to be motivated to
complete the job independently.
During my time working at Ultra Finishing Ltd, I was required to
produce and analyse large spread sheets. This required me to
have excellent attention to detail at all times to ensure there
were no mistakes made that could have an impact on the
business. Producing spread sheets also demonstrated my Excel
skills.
Every week at University, I was required to hand in written
solutions to mathematical problems which were marked by
experts in that field. Therefore attention to detail was crucial in
ensuring that my answers were correct and displayed
effectively.
Working as a sales assistant also requires excellent attention to
detail, as I must listen to any specific customer requirements
and provide service accordingly.
