“The teachers of the law and the Pharisees sit in
Moses’ seat. So you must be careful to do everything
they tell you. But do not do what they do, for they do
not practice what they preach. They tie up heavy,
cumbersome loads and put them on other people’s
shoulders, but they themselves are not willing to lift
a finger to move them.

9. Hearing that Jesus had silenced the Sadducees, the
Pharisees got together. One of them, an expert in
the law, tested him with this question: “Teacher,
which is the greatest commandment in the Law?”
Jesus replied: “‘Love the Lord your God with all your
heart and with all your soul and with all your mind.’
This is the first and greatest commandment. And the
second is like it: ‘Love your neighbor as yourself.’ All
the Law and the Prophets hang on these two
commandments.”

has been made known, to which the Law and the
Prophets testify. This righteousness is given through
faith in Jesus Christ to all who believe. There is no
difference between Jew and Gentile, for all have
sinned and fall short of the glory of God, and all are
justified freely by his grace through the redemption
that came by Christ Jesus.
