skills and states that they are together they form two competencies of Emotional
Intelligence.
II. Evaluation:
Travis Bradberry’saccount on the breakdown of Emotional Intelligence is
that it is considered “the other kind of smart”. However, this based on the
research he and co-author Jean Greaves discovered in Emotional Intelligence
2.0. The article is an illustration of how Emotional Intelligence operates; with
that in mind, you do not have to possess a certain set of extreme skills to tap into
your own personal EI. Emotional Intelligence is design to help assist companies

Although, he execute a psychological approach on how Emotional
Intelligence comes from the “two brains” these two areas of the brain (i.e.
emotional brain and rational brain) communicate and this is where Emotional
Intelligence is born. In his findings, this concluded that there are four core skills
(i.e. self-awareness, self-management, social-awareness and relationship
management) and twopaired competencies (i.e. personal competence and social
competence). These skills are used to determine how we act, deal with problems
and problem solving, decision-making and how to achieve positive results.
In personal competence becoming more aware of yourself in addition as
how to focus on personal emotions and behaviors, this section of the article based
on personal revelations and self-discoveries of the individual.
In social competence, you are more aware of the emotions of others,
understand how they feel (i.e. empathy), and have the ability manage the
emotions of others as well as your own (i.e. compassion).
The article goes on to describe how Emotional Intelligence, IQ and
Personality are different but that have similar elements in there temperament.
However, there is no connection between EI and IQ; you cannot determine
someone’s level of intelligence based on IQ scores or the EI skillset. Emotional
Intelligence is the practice of skills learned. Personality is your own style and this
does not change and is based on personal preferences.
According to the author, Emotional Intelligence is linked to Performance,
and that it has a powerful impact on performance and indicates how focus and
energy is powerful and presents the acquired results needed to become
successful. Emotional Intelligence can be developed over time and this is based
on the communication between the emotional and rational brains. You have to
train you mind by using emotions consistently and learning new things is the
beginning.

III. Potential Application to My Leadership
Development
My belief is that if I begin to implement the EI core skills that are
discussed in the article and learn to develop them and use them
consistently that the overall effect will take me closer to my desired goal.
However, firsthand I must become more self-aware of my abilities and
manage my behavior towards others and myself. In other words, I must be
willing to change the areas of my emotions where I may be weak in and
strive toperfect them as I go forward. In addition, I must practice them in
every aspect of my life personal and business environments with co-
workers and team members. By learning how to train my brain to go to
another level of learning and be mindful of my performance, behavior and
emotions as well that of others.
