1. Borrow a Kindle Book with a Kindle eReader
and MontanaLibrary2Go

2. You will need:
Kindle eReader
USB cord
Library Card Number
Internet connection
Amazon login and password
Computer: Windows 2000 or later or
Mac OS X 10.2 or later
USB port: An available port or an attached USB hub with an available
port

6. Type in your library card number.
You will need the whole number 2115900#######.
If there are no problems with the card you will be
directed to the main screen.

7. Find a Book with Advanced Settings
Touch the Advanced Search option.
You will see it in the upper right hand corner.

8. Look for the menu item called All Formats.
Touch the drop down arrow and select Kindle Book.

9. You can limit your options to selections that are available by checking
the box for only titles with copies available.
If you select this option, you will find something that is available now
but you will not be able to see the unavailable items to place holds on.

10. This time, only books available for Kindles are displayed.
You will see grey or black book icons in each corner of the selections.

11. Placing Holds and Borrowing Books
Click a grey selection. You will be directed to a screen where you may
Place a Hold.
Enter and confirm the e-mail address where you would like to be notified if the
book becomes available to you.
Click a black book selection.
You will be directed to a screen where you can Borrow the book.

12. Downloading Books
You will be directed to a screen where you can choose what to do with the book.
Your options are:
You will need wifi to read it in your browser.

13. Downloading books
To download the book onto your Kindle touch Download.
Tick the box that says Kindle Book.
Touch Confirm and Download.
You will be routed to Amazon.com for the rest of this exercise.

14. At this point you will have been rerouted to the Amazon web page.
On the right hand side you will see
Type in your Amazon username and password.
Now you will see another drop down menu.
If you have more than one device with Amazon, you can choose the
Kindle eReader you want to use.

15. Now you should get a message that tells you to download the material via USB.
Look for your name in the upper right hand side.
Next to this greeting is your account. Touch this to see a list of options.
One of these options is Manage your Kindle.
Click this option.

16. The manage your kindle page has a list of borrowed and/or purchased
items.

17. Click on the item you would like to download to
select it.

18. You should see some options come up above your collection
of books. Click on More actions
Select Download and transfer via USB

19. A box will pop up to confirm the download.
Click Download.
Save the file to a place where you can find it again..

20. Transfer the Book to the eReader
Plug your kindle eReader into your computer with the USB cord.
Open a file browser. On many computers, there is an icon on the
desktop titled My Computer or This PC.
Double click on the Kindle drive. Not all computers and operating
systems are the same. It will probably look similar to this.

21. Find the file you saved and drop it into the Kindle documents folder.
To drag and drop, you click the left mouse button. Without releasing
pressure on the left mouse button, move the mouse to the folder you
want it to go into before releasing the mouse button. This should drop
the file into the documents folder in the Kindle.
When you unplug your Kindle from the computer, you should see that
your e-book is now on it.

22. Return the book
To return an item early, return to Amazon.com with your username and password.

23. The manage your kindle page has a list of borrowed and/or purchased
items.

24. Click on the item you would like to return to select it.

25. You should see some options come up above your collection
of books. Click on More actions
Select Return this book to return it.

26. The title may remain on your eReader until you manually remove it.
You can do this by plugging your Kindle into the computer.
Double click the Kindle file then double click on the documents file.
Right click on the title you would like to remove, and select delete.
