What is Six Sigma?
Six Sigma at many organizations simply means a measure of quality that strives
for near perfection. Six Sigma is a set of practices to systematically improve
processes by eliminating defects. A defect is defined as failure of a product,
process or service in meeting requirements of internal or external customers.
Benchmark Six Sigma asserts:
It is important to understand Six Sigma as a set of extra-ordinary
techniques that improves decision making in a wide variety of situations.
Six Sigma techniques are not rocket science and can be leant in a
down-to-earth daily application oriented language.
This is accomplished through the use of two Six Sigma sub-methodologies:
The Six Sigma DMAIC process (define, measure, analyze, improve, control) is an
improvement system for existing processes falling below specification and
looking for incremental improvement.
The Six Sigma DMADV process (define, measure, analyze, design, verify) is an
improvement system used to develop new processes or products at Six Sigma
quality levels. It can also be employed if a current process requires more than
just incremental improvement.

management techniques used for bringing business / process
improvements.
With changing dynamics and growing demand to achieve excellence, reduce

Six Sigma is a management methodology that uses a structured approach which

How is Six Sigma different?
Six Sigma differs from traditional performance improvement programs in its focus

Sigma program demands that problems be addressed at the root level,
eliminating the need for unnecessary inspection and rework processes.
Also, while other programs mention philosophies, ideas, and requirements (e.g.
ISO 9001 specifies requirements) Six Sigma provides a structured roadmap on
how to bring benefits.
Six Sigma as a strategic tool is customer focused and is ultimately designed to
increase profits through enhanced customer satisfaction.

All Benchmark Six Sigma programs are offered in two formats. Public training and
In-company training. Public training is cost effective for self sponsored and company
sponsored participants. Incompany training can be customized as per the needs.
As the body of knowledge is vast, some theoretical elements are covered through
pre-course material which is provided to participants on registration. This ensures that
you have the right basic knowledge to have an effective start with Green Belt training.
You will be assigned to a suitable group for team exercises and discussions to help you
learn. Teams are selected carefully so that members have similar focus area.
During the Green Belt training, topic specific case studies are used to help participants
in understanding. You shall get complete data to work on a real project to practice your
learning and compare your results with the Master Black Belt trainer. Case studies and
analysis outputs serve as useful reference for application at the work place.
