This document provides details on the pre-production planning for a horror/slasher film about two sisters defending themselves from an intruder in their home. It outlines that the film will take place entirely over one night in a single location (their house) to create a trapped feeling. Costumes will include fake knives and sourced wardrobes to dress the sisters in mourning clothes and the intruder in a hooded mask. Filming will occur on a weekend in the school holidays when actors are available to minimize scheduling complications of the small production shooting in a single location.

1. UNIT10: Film Pre-production technical features
Proposal
My film will be a horror/slasher film about 2 sisters who haverecently
lost their mother and are mourning her death. Unbeknownstto the
sisters, their mother owed a great deal of money to a group of bad
individuals who are suspected to have murdered her. A member from
the group of individuals come to the housethat the sisters are currently
living in to try and steal from the deceased mother to repay the debt,
the thief unawareof the sisters presencein the house has to leave no
witnesses of the theft or it becomes obvious who killed the mother, so
the film will focus on the night wherethe sisters are trying to fend off
fromthe armed and dangerous thief.
Logline
Unsettled is a slasher-horror film following 2 sisters who are grieving the
loss of their mother however unawareof the unfinished business her
mother left for them
Costume/Props
The main props and costumes that will be featured in my film are as
follows:
 Fake Knifes: for health and safety reasons using a real knife would
be too dangerous, butthe knife will be wielded by the robber and
one of the sisters and as we see 2 murders in my film the knife
will be a main part in the props.
 The sisters costumes: will be sourced from my actors own
personalwardrobes however I expectthem to dress in quite dark
outfits as they are in mourning of the loss of their mother
 The killers costume: the killers costumewill be sourced from my
personalwardrobeas I already have the costume available and
don’t need to go out and buy any extra parts, the killer will be
dressed in a black hoodie and a mask to reflect that he is keeping
his identity hidden because he is originally a thief and he is trying
to hide fromany witnesses outside the house and doesn’t wantto
be caught because it will be revealed he killed the mother but as
well the mask will create suspenseas to his identity

2. Location scouting
In my script all of the scenes take place in one house, this is becausein
horror films they tend to focus on one specific location and one specific
night and the wholefilm occurs all in one night, I want to use a housefor
most of the scenes and all though the housewill be somewhatsmall I
want to take advantage of the smallness to create an unsettling and
trapped feeling justlike in a slasher film and as well shooting in one
location creates an easier recce and much easier to get permission
especially if it’s fromone of my friends houseor my own
Health and Safety
Shooting my film in one houseI have to take many things into
consideration when it comes to health and safety, as I expect my actors
to run quite fast and becausea house is quite narrow I need to make
surenone of my actors trip or fall or not knock over anything fragile
especially something with glass becausethey may cut themselves, so I
will have to observemy shooting locations thoroughly and remove
anything that can causean accident, as well with my useof knives using
a fake one majorly reduces any risk of cutting someone or causing an
accident even worseand becauseit is a closed location and no-one else
will be around there also will be less of a risk of cutting anyoneelse not
involved.
Shooting schedule
Since I only have3 actors in my film and we all havecollege and personal
commitments e.g. jobs and family, I havedecided it is best to shoot my
film in the school holidays and on a weekend, I havealready organised
this with my actors and have agreed on a date of about 21-22nd
of
February, my film shouldn’ttake long to shootas it doesn’trequire a lot
of locations or any use of day and night and since it’s only in one location
that means we all do not need to rely on separate and complicated
transportand I already havethe locations whittled down to 2 so it’s just
deciding which location to use and which is more convenient for my
actors
