15. The operator takes a series of high-
resolution images of the tower and
its elements in order to obtain the
complete mosaicking of the
structure.
During the flight the HD video will
be recorded to document all the
flight operations
Data Collection
Use of Day Light Camera
16. Images at 36 Mpixel resolution are taken from the front…
…and back side
17. Due to a very steady turret system, long focal length of the camera and all Hi-
Resolution images obtained, back office technicians can see every important detail
needed for an adequate post processing
18. During post processing, the images collected during the flight will be reviewed by a
specialist who will search for and classify anomalies on:
Hardware
Clamps
Insulators
Components of the Towers
Foundations of the Towers
Dampers
ETC…
19. During the flight we record an entire
video of the Corona inspection.
When a HOT SPOT is present, the
operator will scrutinize the area and will
adjust the camera to obtain sharper
images
In the sample image, the Corona
Discharge appears as a floating blob of
light

Use of Corona Camera
20. During the flight we record an entire video of
the infrared inspection.
When a HOT SPOT is present, the operator will
scrutinize the area and will adjust the camera
to obtain sharper images
It is necessary to take HIGH RESOLUTION
mages at the same time of making a VIDEO
RECORDING in order to perform a
throughout analysis of all areas where a
Corona Discharge is present
To avoid any reflections from the aircraft,
the a 45 degree tilt positioning may be
necessary for this operation
Automatically triggered audio sensor turns
on the audio system for 45 seconds to
record time and geo referenced comments
from the cabin

25. Data Analysis
From Thermal IR Camera
Radiometric Images captured during the flight will be analyzed with the help of a specialized
software that allows the reporting of temperature measurements...
26. DELTA T= 18,27°C
This analysis further makes a «DELTA T» calculation in order to determine
the severity of the temperature caused by the anomaly
27. Sample of Image Analysis with Radiometric Measurement Software
The system also takes into consideration weather data and lets the operator
exclude imperfections like reflections
28. The severity of any overheating is measured and then intepreted by office
technicians
29. During In-Depth analysis technicians consider
informations about the equipment surface
(material, reflexions, etc…)
and Relative Humidity and air temperature as
well…
30. DELTA T= 36°C
After final calibration, the real amount of overheating is determined and a Geo Referenced
image is exported for futher analysis of the generated fault
31. ASSESMENT OF TEMPERATURE READINGS & THEIR
SEVERITY ACCORDING TO ASTM E1934
for Examining Electrical and Mechanical Equipment with Infrared
Thermography
32. Data Analysis
From Corona Camera
Audionotes taken during flight, help back-office operators to the right spot
of the video Corona footage
Visual analysis of the corresponding High -
Resolution Image lets the operator to
check, confirm or reject the fault
38. A printed or digital report that meets client’s
requirements is then produced
FINAL DOCUMENT
39. BIRDVIEW can provide GIS or Google Earth referenced printed reports

Editor's Notes
