Season even better than forecast (second exceptional season in a row, makes a big difference relative to an average season) Results from MLA’s lamb and wool June 2011 producer survey also revealed that 56% of producers responding to the survey believed that the seasonal conditions in their region were better than in 2010, 26% thought that they were the same, and 19% thought they were worse than last year. The exception to this, was producers in WA who continued to experience worsening drought conditions compared to last year
Data: Global Trade Atlas (GTA) But Australia is the world’s second largest beef exporter, behind Brazil, which overtook us for the first time only last year. US had been the second largest behind Australia before the BSE cases in late 2003.

MSA is a meat grading and consumer labelling scheme that includes carcase beef quality, muscle characteristics (primarily hanging and ageing methods) and cooking method to guarantee the eating quality of beef. With MSA we now can guarantee tenderness and eating quality in beef In 2008-09 over 1 million carcasses were MSA graded Eating Quality Assured (EQA) is taking guaranteed tenderness and eating qaulity to our global customers
NLIS is a mandatory, permanent whole-of-life system that allows individual animals to be identified electronically and tracked from property of birth to slaughter, for food safety, product integrity and market access purposes The radio frequency transponders can be housed in either ear tags or rumen boluses with matched ear tags. Cattle identified while still on their property of birth are identified with a with breeder tag while those which have left their bith property when first identified use the post breeder orange tag. All NLIS accredited devices, regardless of manufacturer or type, can be read with the same reader
For each transaction the data is stored on a central database, as indicated by the green arrows. The first step in containing a disease outbreak is to establish the history of the herds or individual cattle involved, the properties where they ’ ve been held, the sales yards and the processing facilities they have been through. With this information now being recorded in the NLIS database every day, information regarding the location of individual animals and their companions can be retrieved by the appropriate authorities within hours or even minutes depending on the number of animals involved. This allows our authorities to accurately trace the affected cattle in the field, track down animals which have been in contact with them and limit the prospects of the disease spreading.
