Santander UK in university branch expansion
■ In the past 12 months Santander has opened 9 university branches bringing its
campus presence to a total of 42 locations
December 14, 2012. UK students and staff have been benefiting from the proximity of a
university branch since 2008 when the first Santander university branch opened. Since then
the Bank has seen a fast-paced expansion across university campuses at the same time as it
has been increasing its offering of tailor-made products and services for the university
community.
In 2012 has opened branches in: Royal Holloway, Birmingham, Chester, Goldsmiths,
Lancaster, Queen Mary, UCL, Stirling and Ulster. Santander has also upgraded the following
previously non-cash branches to include a cash counter: Bath, Northampton, York and Essex.
The last opening of the year was at Goldsmiths, University of London earlier this month.
Cutting the ribbon were the Warden of the University, Patrick Loughrey, Steve Pateman
Executive Director, Head of Banking, Santander UK and Branch Manager Judyta Hawrys.
Steve Pateman says: “The expansion of university branches across UK campuses means that
thousands more students and staff now have easy access to banking facilities without the
need to leave the campus. This is part of our commitment to higher education and our aim to
provide the best products and services for the university community in the UK.”
2012 has seen a sharp rise in the number Santander student accounts opened in university
branches, with an increase of 91% year on year.
The bank is currently looking at increasing the product offer for university branches in the next
academic year and there are 7 new branch openings and 5 new upgrades in plan for 2013.
