There are several remedies available when a contract is breached. Compensatory damages aim to put the injured party in the position they would have been in had the contract been fulfilled, including expectation damages, reliance damages, and restitution damages. Consequential damages compensate for unique losses to the injured party that were foreseeable. Injunctions and specific performance can also be awarded to require or prevent certain actions. Punitive damages punish egregious breaches but are rarely awarded.
