I am writing this letter of reference at the request of Asim Ilyas, who is applying for his Canadian
Citizenship.
I have known Asim since March 2012 in his role as Treasurer of the Cambridge Sports Awards
Committee. The Sports Awards is a community award program that was established by the City of
Cambridge in 1974 to celebrate the outstanding accomplishments on the part of Cambridge athletes at
provincial, national and international levels of competition.
The purpose of the committee is to organize an annual community event held early each year in November
to recognize Cambridge’s finest athletes, whereby the general public and the athletic community honour
those selected for their outstanding achievements.
As Treasurer, Asim is responsible for preparing a budget in conjunction with the committee, keeping a
record of all revenues and expenses for the committee paying bills related to the banquet, applying for
appropriate grants to cover the partial costs of the banquet, submitting a final financial statement to the
committee following the banquet, arranging for ticket takers and other personnel (registration), as required
for the evening of the banquet, attending committee meetings on a regular basis and attending the sports
banquet itself.
Asim is organized, leads by example and is supportive of his fellow committee members. A respected
professional, Asim remains a member of the committee in good standing. His term will expire in
December 2013.
