In the course of development-implementation project’s research and development phase developers
tend to make some test concurrent programs,alerts,reports, lookups and other AOL objects.It is very
important to remove the same once the purpose is solved.
Deleting a concurrent program, lookup or for that matter most of the AOL Objects is easy . You can delete
them from the Applications Screen menu section using the delete button from the menu bar
However, special care needs to be taken in case of Alerts be it Periodic or Event. You cannot delete a Alert
from an Application Screen if the alert has been run once( that is the alert has a history).
It would display a message as shown in screenshot :

Trying to Delete the alert ( enabled action set exist)
Further, even if the alert has not been run once even you need to make sure that there are no enabled
action sets attached to the alert. If there is one you need to disable the same before deleting the alert.
Enabled Action Sets :
For Demo Purpose I will create a Alert first with no enabled action sets and then with a enabled action set:
Screen shot – Without Enabled Action Set :
Trying to Delete the alert ( no enabled action sets)
The record will get deleted.
Now I will add one enabled action sets to it :

If you try deleting a alert which has enabled action sets you get a message as :
In this case you need to first delete the enabled action sets and then you can delete the Alert.
But this too provided there is no Alert History, that is the Alert has not been run even once which is far
from a real life scenario.
Generally in such cases we Disable the Alert as shown in screen shot below :

The Enabled checkbox is unchecked.
One smart way of completely removing the Alert is using (ALR_ALERTS_PKG.DELETE_ROW)API :
BEGIN
ALR_ALERTS_PKG.DELETE_ROW(20003,100021);
EXCEPTION
WHEN OTHERS THEN
DBMS_OUTPUT.PUT_LINE(SQLCODE||SQLERRM);
COMMIT;
END;
Where 20003 = APPLICATION_ID of the application in which alert is defined
And 100021= ALERT_ID
This will completely remove the alert from the applications.
Hope you like the example, do leave your comment and suggestions to improve the same.
