15. SPEAKING Food for thought …
A contemporary well-known linguist, David Crystal , has coined the term
"Netspeak" to refer to a new type of computer mediated language, which is in
fact a blend of written and spoken language and it is the language computer
users the world over communicate through. Symbols and emoticons that take
over real facial expressions, prosodic features, body language .... that is, onsite
face-to-face communication. D.Crystal says that "what makes Netspeak so
interesting , as a form of communication, is the way it relies on characteristics
belonging to both sides of the speech/writing divide"

MYTHS & LEGENDS, TRUE or FALSE?
When we use Internet for a class we don’t need to prepare anything.
An Internet class needs to be a well-prepared and
structured as any other class. You must go through the material in
advance and make sure that the language, content and presentation
are what you want for your class.

22. TRIVIA
MYTHS & LEGENDS, TRUE or FALSE?
Internet will reach a point and then it will lose some ground.
What is the future of the Internet in language teaching?
“That's difficult to say. I think it will be used more and more as
an adjunct to class-based teaching . As it becomes more
sophisticated it will gain immensely in popularity, being used in ever
great numbers by students working on their own, by people who
can't make it to real classrooms (but can still meet up 'virtually'), and
by teachers looking for readily available extra material.”
An
interview with Jeremy Harmer – English Language Teaching Forum
