Project Duration: 12 months (June 2013 – May 2014)
Development and testing of a medical navigation system
for abdominal surgery that supports the surgeon with the
3D visualization of the region to be operated and the
trajectory of the surgical instruments in real time.
5. • Lapis is a technological platform which implements a
revolutionary system suitable to help and support the
physician during abdominal surgical procedures.
• The main objective is perform more accurate
procedures in less time, using 3D improved clinical
information from CT/MRI or US scans joined with the
reliability of a high quality medical navigation system.
The new device can guide the surgeon in real time
during abdominal procedures, opening a new era in
laparoscopic or echo-guided surgery.
• LAPIS system, developed by MASMEC, is under test in
the abdominal surgery department of Casa Sollievo della
Sofferenza Hospital, under Dr. Matteo Scaramuzzi’s
supervision
