This workshop will inform participants about the mechanics as well as the advantages and disadvantages of professional learning networks (PLN), both as a scholar and in the classroom. A professional learning network (also known as a personalized learning network) includes technology-based tools and processes used by a social worker to stay up-to-date and share information about current news, practice knowledge and the latest research findings. Participants will learn how to establish and grow their own PLN, integrate PLNs into a classroom or curriculum, and appreciate how the theory of Connectivism (Siemens, 2005) informs the practice of PLNs. Professional learning networks (PLN) include tech-based tools and processes used by social workers to stay current and share information about news, practice knowledge and research findings. Participants will learn how to establish their own PLN, integrate PLNs into a classroom, and appreciate how theory informs the practice of PLNs.

As social media continues to become part of our lives, today’s connected learner has more information at their fingertips than ever before. In this session, discover opportunities to improve student success through the implementation of creative, collaborative tasks through social media. Go beyond 140 characters of engagement, and encourage students to construct their own learning by using popular Web 2.0 tools to bridge the gap between pedagogy and technology. Goals – At the end of the session, participants will be able to: Establish criteria for implementing social and digital media in their classes, identify when students may need to unplug, and implement social media tools such as Twitter and Padlet into a lesson plan

Presentation given at FITSI at UNH in June 2010 on the varying role of social media in education. Followed by a panel that included several teachers, the IT department and the Assistant Dean, and later by a social media roundtable on guidelines and policies. It was a great day of learning to an attentive crowd. Note: In 2010 we changed the name of our company from Uptown Uncorked to Magnitude Media to better reflect the variety of clients we serve.

Talk held during the SolarStorm Learning Analytics Symposium. Organized by Simon Buckingham Shum. The OUNL team will talk about work in progress from a SocialLearn research internship held by Bieke Schreurs. The Network Awareness Tool (NAT) was developed initially for rendering the normally invisible non-digital networks underpinning informal learning (in particular for teacher professional development). The work reported here describes how NAT was adapted to render social networks between informal learners in the OU’s SocialLearn platform, in which different social ties can be filtered in and out of the network visualization, and moreover, enriched with topics. http://bit.ly/LearningAnalyticsOU

Social Learning: Impact the Classroom and the District 9 AM - 12 PM IU 8 The web has changed from a one-way communication vehicle to a two-way, collaborative space that enables conversations, content creation, connections and collaboration to enhance learning and communication. How can you use these new, often free, tools to enhance your learning activities in the classroom and communication in the school district? The session will explore the changing Internet landscape, opportunities for using web 2.0 as a learning and communication tool, strategies for implementing web 2.0 and an exploration of some tools that enable social learning.

Workshop presentation for AITD (Australian Institute of Training & Development), 16 September 2014. Session overview: Mobile learning has the potential to disrupt our traditional methods of training delivery. Our smartphones are constantly connected, the interactions we use such as swiping and tapping enable these devices to behave very differently to desktop or laptop computers. Yet our designs for learning remain focused on desktop interactions that just won’t suit mobiles. We’ve been researching the use of mobile in organisations, including mobile learning, for a number of years now. In 2012 we conducted research into the State of Mobile Learning in Australia (see the results Part 1 and Part 2). What has changed since that study? A lot! We now have newer, faster, more responsive devices - including a range of tablets, from iPads to Galaxy, to Surface. These devices and what we can do with them create enormous opportunities. However, they also can generate a number of complexities! Discover how our use of the smartphones is fundamentally altering our perspectives of consuming content and engaging with friends and colleagues. How can you harness this ever changing resource to your best advantage ? What common traps and pitfalls should you avoid ? Which factors make the difference between an award winning program and costly white elephant? Topics: 1. Designing for devices (understanding touch and gestures) 2. Do I build an app or use responsive browsers 3. Tapping into existing enterprise social networks 4. What works on mobiles 5. What doesn't work on mobiles

Webinar Recording: https://www.panagenda.com/webinars/why-teams-call-analytics-is-critical-to-your-entire-business Nothing is as frustrating and noticeable as being in an important call and being unable to see or hear the other person. Not surprising then, that issues with Teams calls are among the most common problems users call their helpdesk for. Having in depth insight into everything relevant going on at the user’s device, local network, ISP and Microsoft itself during the call is crucial for good Microsoft Teams Call quality support. To ensure a quick and adequate solution and to ensure your users get the most out of their Microsoft 365. But did you know that ‘bad calls’ are also an excellent indicator of other problems arising? Precisely because it is so noticeable!? Like the canary in the mine, bad calls can be early indicators of problems. Problems that might otherwise not have been noticed for a while but can have a big impact on productivity and satisfaction. Join this session by Christoph Adler to learn how true Microsoft Teams call quality analytics helped other organizations troubleshoot bad calls and identify and fix problems that impacted Teams calls or the use of Microsoft365 in general. See what it can do to keep your users happy and productive! In this session we will cover - Why CQD data alone is not enough to troubleshoot call problems - The importance of attributing call problems to the right call participant - What call quality analytics can do to help you quickly find, fix-, and prevent problems - Why having retrospective detailed insights matters - Real life examples of how others have used Microsoft Teams call quality monitoring to problem shoot problems with their ISP, network, device health and more.

Tracing the root cause of a performance issue requires a lot of patience, experience, and focus. It’s so hard that we sometimes attempt to guess by trying out tentative fixes, but that usually results in frustration, messy code, and a considerable waste of time and money. This talk explains how to correctly zoom in on a performance bottleneck using three levels of profiling: distributed tracing, metrics, and method profiling. After we learn to read the JVM profiler output as a flame graph, we explore a series of bottlenecks typical for backend systems, like connection/thread pool starvation, invisible aspects, blocking code, hot CPU methods, lock contention, and Virtual Thread pinning, and we learn to trace them even if they occur in library code you are not familiar with. Attend this talk and prepare for the performance issues that will eventually hit any successful system. About authorWith two decades of experience, Victor is a Java Champion working as a trainer for top companies in Europe. Five thousands developers in 120 companies attended his workshops, so he gets to debate every week the challenges that various projects struggle with.
