4. Attribute Evaluation
Attributes Electic Gas Comments
Environemntally Friendly Yes No
Electric vehicles do not have any tailpipe emissions in their operation whereas
conventional vehicles emit greenhouse gasses in their operation
Noise Pollution Yes No
Electric vehicles are relatively quiet in comparison to conventional vehicles because
they do not have an engine. That is not to say that they are noise free; there is still
noise associated with its operation such as tire noise, electric motor noise, wind noise
Maintenance Yes No
Maintainance costs for electric vehicles should be lowered compared to conventional
vehicles because there is no need to change fluids (ie motor oil, coolant, etc). The
fewer movings parts associated with electric vehicles would also lower operating and
maintenance costs
Fuel Cost Yes No
Fuel costs for electric vehicles will be substantially lower given that on-peak electircty
costs in ontario are 16.1 cents/kWh. A Tesla Model S with 85kWh capacity would cost
$13.68 to charge. This would give almost 500km of range
Infrastructure No Yes Infrastructure for electric vehicles is not as developed gas vehicles (ie refueling, service)
Range No Yes Electric vehicles have limited range compared to conventional gas vehicles.
Technology Yes Yes Electric vehicles are perceived as more "high tech"
