Dacia is a Romanian car manufacturer that started cooperating with Renault in 1966. The main Dacia factory was built in 1968 in Colibași, near Pitești. The first Dacia 1300 left the assembly line in 1969 and was initially based on Renault designs under license. In 1999, Dacia was acquired by Renault to make Romania its automobile development hub for Central and Eastern Europe.
