Words beginning with “b”
CLASS : 1 Beta
DURATION : 1 hour
LEARNING OUTCOMES : By the end of the lesson,
pupils will be able to:
a) identify the letter “ b”.
b) listen to and pronounce the phoneme /b/
correctly.
c) identify and pronounce words correctly.
TEACHING AID : CD and worksheets.
1.Pupils listen to the ABC song. (English CD
Courseware)
2.Pupils sing the song together. Lets listen to
the song. Lets sing together.
1.Introduce the letter “b” by saying the
phoneme: /b/.
2.Teacher gets pupils to say the phoneme
aloud.
3.Teacher gets pupils to trace the letters
using sand paper.
1. Display picture cards/ realia.
e.g: book bag body bird ball
2. Teacher shows the picture cards/ realia and says the word
one by one and gets pupils to repeat after him.
3. Next, teacher displays the word cards together with the
picture cards. Teacher points to the picture together with
the word cards and pronounce the word.
4. Teacher gets pupils to repeat after him.
 look at the picture
 repeat after me.
 lets say the words together
1.Teacher shows letter cards of the book: b . o . o and k
and sounds out the letters to spell the word “book”.
2.Teacher does the same for the other words introduced
for the day: bag, bird, body and ball repeatedly.
3. Teacher gives a word and pupils spell the word using
letter cards. This activity can be carried out as a
competition.
 Now, look at the letter and repeat after me.
 Spell the word with me.
 Who can tell me the word?
 Spell this word: book.
1.Distribute worksheet.
Pupils write the letters in the boxes correctly.
Look at the words and pictures. Fill in the
boxes.
Consolidation
Sing together the “ABC” song repeatedly.
Reinforcement
Distribute worksheet. Pupils circle the words
correctly.
